The Swedish Academy in Stockholm announced the winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday: László Krasznahorkai (English, Italiano, Français, Deutsch)
Stockholm. The press eagerly awaited the announcement by Mats Malm, the Academy's permanent secretary, in the Blue Salon of the Swedish Academy in Stockholm: "The 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature will be awarded to the Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai!" This makes the 71-year-old novelist and screenwriter the second Hungarian author – after Imre Kertesz – to receive this great honor. The Nobel Prize, founded by Alfred Nobel (1833-1896), will be awarded tomorrow, December 10th. It carries a prize money of 11 million Swedish kronor – the equivalent of approximately 1 million euros.
The writer László Krasznahorkai was born in 1954 in Gyula, Hungary, a world that would inspire him to write. Today, his literature is among the most innovative in Europe. Novels such as "Satanstango" and "Melancholy of Resistance" have become known worldwide. His works have been published in German by S. Fischer Verlag.
