BOOK TIP: Rock history and photo art - the early Rolling Stones - illustrated book with 240 pages
Book recommendation for Rolling Stones fans: “BREAKING STONES 1963-1965 A BAND ON THE BRINK OF SUPERSTARDOM" - Photographs by Terry O'Neill & Gered Mankowitz"
The Stones and their young photographer Terry O'Neill simply followed their inner artistic drive between 1963 and 1965
Munich. The year was 1962 and a few young men were performing at the Marquee Club on Oxford Street in London, playing their sound. Their name: The Rollin' Stones. For the 25-year-old British photographer Terry O'Neill (1938-2019), the Stones' music had something magical from the start, something he knew from the Beatles. A few years ago, Terry O'Neill's photographs of the young band “Rolling Stones” were exhibited at an exhibition in Munich. The reason for the exhibition with original, signed and limited photographs was the publication of the English illustrated book “Breaking Stones” by Terry O'Neill and Gered Mankowitz.

We were at the Stephen Hoffman gallery in 2016 and met Terry O'Neill in person and he talked about his first encounter with the Stones:
... We were all young and nobody knew who should be famous. Not you and neither me: we just lived our own thing!

The illustrated book about the Rolling Stones contains fantastic photos of the young musicians at the beginning of their career. But it wasn't just them who were to write rock history to this day, the two photographers Terry O'Neill, then 25, and Gered Mankowitz, then 19, were also at the beginning of their work. Contemporary witnesses have their say in the book and also allow the photographs to be seen in a new light:
Numerous companions of the Stones, as well as the two photographers and the musicians themselves, have their say in the illustrated book “Breaking Stones” - there are text contributions by Andrew Loog Oldman, Norman Jopling, Charlie Watts, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Bill Wyman. Original articles from the Record Mirror (1963), the Evening Standard (1964) and the Detroit Free Press (1965) are also edited.

... signed, original photo art by Terry O'Neill (1938-2019) is still exhibited today. Terry O'Neill, who always traveled personally from London to his vernissages (2013, 2015 and 2016), stayed at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel and spoke very sympathetically about his experiences with many well-known musicians, actors and politicians.
