Holiday tip: Renchtal in the Black Forest

The Oexle are correct – that’s the percentage!

From Upper Bavaria to the Renchtal in the Black Forest - Photo impressions

Munich - Oberkirch. Travel tip: Achern, Ulm - this refers to the well-known “beer village of Ulm” - Haslach, past Tiergarten with the Ullenburg and on towards Oberkirch - in just over two hours and 45 minutes, if everything is free, you can be in the Renchtal. Admittedly, the journey through the countryside can seem long when the motorway is full. It takes us towards Augsburg, Ulm, Stuttgart, Baden-Baden and a little further towards Basel. On the way to the Renchtal then on smaller streets through Achern, Ulm - meaning the well-known "beer village of Ulm" - Haslach, past Tiergarten with the Ullenburg and on towards Oberkirch. On the route you get a nice insight into the local agriculture: initially corn fields, white herds of cows on lush green meadows, then a flood of fruit trees suddenly changes the vegetation.

Golden yellow and red grapes, apples, pears and raspberries

You drive through the villages with their old wine-growing houses and romantic half-timbered buildings, in front of which there are often self-service tables from the fruit growers. Apples, pears and raspberries herald early autumn. August is coming to an end and the grape harvest has almost begun. Despite the hot summer, golden yellow and red grapes will once again make the 2024 vintage an excellent vintage. The Oexle are correct – that’s the percentage!

Little nervous bats fight over the fattest mosquitoes

When we arrived, it was evening, the vines were lined up in long lines up and down the hill. Here and there a bird of prey with long wings circles and little nervous bats fight over the fattest mosquitoes. The moon soon triumphs over the orange-red sun, which is about to sink into the horizon behind the Vosges. The high tower of the Strasbourg Cathedral in particular, backlit, announces a remnant of the city backdrop before everything is plunged into dark night.

Mild, “very good” air quality

Like a glimmer of hope, the stars above the illuminated ruins of the Schauburg herald the next sunny day. It's quiet when you walk through the vines at night. The wind alone moves the rustling leaves of the chestnut trees that crown the vineyard. Mild, “very good” air quality, as the mobile phone announces, relaxes us after the journey into the idyll.
