Oktoberfest starts: in 8 days

8 days left until Oktoberfest in Munich

IT'S INTO THE LAST CONSTRUCTION WEEK - The Oktoberfest festival tents and halls are up

Munich Oktoberfest begins on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, admission to the site from 9:00 a.m. and then the celebrations continue until Sunday, October 6th, 2024

Munich - Theresienwiese under the Bavaria.
In just over a week the time has come. There is work, hammering and checking everywhere. Truckloads are delivered, unloaded, installed and integrated into existing structures every half hour. The Oktoberfest meadow, with its total size of almost 60 football fields, is visibly filling up. There is no longer any space where leisurely strollers would otherwise run with their dogs, athletes would train diligently or children would fly their kites. And 8 days before the start of the meadow it looks almost finished. From the Theresienwiese subway stop you can see an almost finished Wirtsbudenstrasse under the entrance sign. Festival halls and Oktoberfest tents are lined up here like pearls on a chain.

Many festival tents are waiting for the Oktoberfest visitors who have already reserved their tables

FISCHER VRONI

The Fischer-Vroni marquee features the well-known and popular Steckerl fish. Of course, delicious Munich meat dishes are also served here.

OX ROAST

Next to Fischer-Vroni (photo, left) is the popular Ochsenbraterei.

AUGUSTINER FESTIVAL HALL

In the Augustiner festival hall of the Augustiner brewery, the beer is served from the Hirschen - these are 200 liter wooden barrels that significantly influence the taste of the beer.

PSCHORR-BRÄUROSL

The Pschorr-Bräurosl, which got its beautiful name after the daughter of the former brewery owner, is called Hacker-Pschorr.

LÖWENBRÄU-FESTHALLE

The lion from Löwenbräu sits high up on his tower. At Oktoberfest time, the figure turns and moves its mouth while roaring.

Kufflers WINE TENT

Yes, you read that right. There is also a wine tent at Oktoberfest. Kufflers wine tent promises good food, good music and a good wine. By the way, many dishes are offered cheaper at the Mittagswies'n. There is also tapped Paulaner wheat beer.

MARSTALL

Stable tent with the white horses on the gable. They refer to the Munich Marstall, the riding school for noble society built by Leo von Klenze in the 19th century. The magnificent horse can be seen everywhere in the festival tent and is intended to commemorate the horse race that took place on October 16, 1810 in honor of the wedding of Ludwig of Bavaria and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. - In 2010, Munich celebrated 200 years of Oktoberfest. -

Shooters will also be there again, here those from Endorf im Chiemgau on the way to a state reception in the Residenz am Hofgarten - ; Photo: Helga Waess - see our blog post (2015)

CROSSBOW Shooters Festival Hall

The crossbow rifle festival hall was first built by the WINZERER FÄHNDL guild at the Oktoberfest in 1895. After all, the Oktoberfest in Munich is also a shooting festival. Every year, the hosts of the festival hall enable 200 seniors to visit the Oktoberfest free of charge. By the way, Paulaner's Oktoberfest beer is served here.

HOFBRÄU MARQUEE

The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl in Munich is world-famous. There is no tourist who doesn't even want to visit this Munich beer tradition site. The Hofbräu festival tent has been run by the Steinberg family since 1980. In addition to the traditional tables, there is also a standing bar.

HACKER MARQUEE

In the Hacker-Festzelt you are in “Bavaria heaven”. The visitors celebrate under a heavenly painted tent roof. “Rustic” and “traditional” surrounded by a large village square, the music plays in the middle. Hacker-Pschorr is served.

SCHOTTENHAMEL

Schottenhamel is well known in Munich. Löwenbräu Keller, Menterschwaige and Festhalle are mentioned in the same breath. Traditionally, the first Oktoberfest beer is tapped in Schottenhamel. On September 21st, Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter will announce at 12 p.m.: "O'Zapft is!" Every year the fan community waits to see how many shots it took to tap the first beer.

WINZERER FÄNDL

Paulaner is also available in the Winzerer Fändl below the Bavaria. The Paulaner Tower refers to the Oktoberfest atmosphere found here. FC Bayern players, for example, are also regular guests here. By the way, the marquee is erected in 90 days and dismantled again in 30 days.

SHOOTER MARQUEE

The Schützenfestzelt is right at the foot of the Bavaria and opposite is the Wies'n-Schänke from Käfer.
