Between the Stone Age and street art, you can experience a lot on International Museum Day in Munich - here are just a few highlights!
And in the art area around the Alte Pinakothek in Munich you can stroll from museum to museum - and take a look here and there until 6 p.m - (GERMAN, FRENCH)
Munich. On International Museum Day 2024, museums across Germany will mostly be open with free admission. Many Munich museums offer special tours, extras for children and lectures or even hold parties. Today you can take a “look behind the scenes” in museums. Munich museums are offering numerous guided tours on Whit Sunday, May 19th, with free admission or a cheap Sunday rate. The Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA)
The MUCA now has a permanent place in the Munich museum world. It is the first exhibition hall in Germany to give space to street art and urban art. With around 1,200 works in stock, it will make many exhibitions possible. The current special exhibition "Damien Hirst - The Weight of Things" shows Hirst's art world, which now spans 40 years, through installations, sculptures and paintings.

State Museum of Egyptian Art
Sunday in the Egyptian Museum in the art area offers, among other things, children's workshops: "The Secret of Hieroglyphs" (10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.) and the little ones can also get to know the "Ancient Egyptian World of the Gods" by making gods' masks (1 - 2:30 p.m.). .
Here visitors can find out more about the royal city of Naga in Sudan (lecture from 3 p.m.).
The Egyptian Museum also offers, among other things, digital tours and hieroglyphics courses.

Bavarian National Museum – art and cultural history of Europe
But what would a museum Sunday be without European art from the early Middle Ages to Art Nouveau.
The Bavarian National Museum was founded in 1855 by King Maximilian II. Here you can find sculptures, paintings, goldsmiths' art and ivory carvings, as well as porcelain, costumes, historical furniture and weapons from all times. The collection shows the everyday culture of our ancestors. A unique highlight is the world-famous nativity collection, which includes precious figures from nativity makers in Naples, Sicily and nativity carvers from the Alpine region.

German Hunting and Fishing Museum
In the city center between Marienplatz and Isartor is the German Hunting and Fishing Museum, which illustrates the history of hunting and fishing (in freshwater) up to modern times. Starting from the Stone Age, we find taxidermy, all kinds of weapons and tools.

Kunsthalle Munich in the Fünf Höfe
The fashion designers Viktor & Rolf have written design history with their designs. Her fashion statements were staged by Madonna, Tilda Swinton and Lady Gaga. Distinctive icons of designer clothing, design sketches and examples of photo art by Andreas Gursky and Herb Ritts are currently on display (until October 6, 2024).
