Walking tour of Munich: Old Exhibition Square and Bavaria Park - Augustiner beer garden of the Wirtshaus am Bavariapark
Thoughtful emptiness in the Bavaria Park around the Old Trade Fair Square

Munich. The 2020s in Munich began with thoughtful emptiness and compliance with the exit restrictions shows the strength of character of the people of Munich! We visit different places and places in order to offer Munich residents and tourists, who are understandably not allowed to travel these weeks, a new view of their beautiful city on the computer.
In the last few days, for example, we visited the Old Trade Fair Square: the square square on Schwanthalerhöhe has been a popular meeting place for the public since 1999. It connects three listed halls that were once part of the exhibition center. The floor covering, dolomite from the Altmühltal, a light limestone, shines in the sun. In these days around April 2020, slowness had priority in Munich. What could represent this fact more beautifully than a snail:

Today the exhibits from the German Museum's transport center are located in the old measuring halls.
Few people walk, ride bikes or play with their children. Around the old halls of the former Munich Trade Fair we find views that let us feel the beauty of the hall architecture.
Sweet Brown Snail
On the 23,000 square meter area of the Old Trade Fair Square there is a 4.50 meter high snail sculpture with the beautiful title “Sweet Brown Snail”.

It was once conceived and installed as an art-in-building project by the American artists Jason Rhoades and Paul McCarthy.
This giant snail ironically embodies man's dream of speed.
Classics of mobility
In connection with the transport museum, when you see the animal, you may also think of caravan culture and the idea of the portable house.
A train of thought that brings us back to the Transport Museum, a museum for the classics of mobility by rail or road from over 150 years:
including motor vehicles, various original locomotives, trams as well as passenger cars and historic bicycles.

Tavern at Bavariapark
Directly opposite is the Bavariapark with the Augustiner beer garden of the Wirtshaus am Bavariapark and the former congress hall, where events such as the comic fair take place.

By the way, the Old Trade Fair Square is part of Munich's Westend and, as already mentioned, is located on the Schwanthalerhöhe, between Theresienhöhe with Bavaria and Schießstättstrasse.
An insider tip among Munich residents
When the weather is nice, the beer garden at the “Wirtshaus am Bavariapark” is considered an insider tip among Munich residents.
Located directly at the park, its 850 seats and the Augustiner beer, its service and self-service area invite you to linger.

Bavariapark complex was once called “Theresienhain”
The Bavariapark planting and layout was commissioned by King Ludwig I between 1825 and 1831 as the “Theresienhain”. His court gardener Seitz planted oak trees in the park.
If you do sports here from a sufficient distance, you can discover, among other things, a bronze deer and two bronze horses.
