Munich: Photo impressions of the first snow on December 24, 2025
Christmas Eve with snow in Munich – almost a Christmas miracle!
On December 24, 2025, the Bavarian capital was blessed with gently falling snow (Deutsch, English, Français, Italiano)
Munich. Anyone still out and about in the city was amazed when, at noon on Christmas Eve, the snow not only fell but also stuck. A stroll through the city, a coffee at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, attending Christmas Mass at the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady), and then – before and after – a walk through the snow-covered streets of cozy Munich. What a dream! The Christmas market and nativity scene stalls were already being taken down at Marienplatz, the Christmas tree was lit up, and everywhere you looked, you saw smiling faces, mobile phones in hand, moving from one eye-catching attraction to the next. The Christmas spirit was palpable everywhere – touching and contagious. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the cathedral was truly festive with incense and organ music as the Good News was read. Here are a few photo impressions that capture the feeling of Christmas with snow...
From Odeonsplatz, you slip through the gate into the Hofgarten and experience pure romance.
The Temple of Diana is aligned with the Bavarian State Chancellery behind it.
In summer, couples dance in the temple, and in winter, the snow dances through it!
View of Ludwig Beck - by the way, there's a webcam under the roof for a view from afar (www.kaufhaus.ludwigbeck.de/service/webcam)
Visitors can enjoy a romantic view under the large Christmas tree, past the famous "Ludwig Beck" department store (at the corner of the town hall), towards the Old Town Hall, in whose tower the Munich Toy Museum is located.
Every year, a different Bavarian municipality donates the large Christmas tree for the state capital.
This year, the Christmas tree in front of the town hall came from Ellmau am Wilden Kaiser!
The Christmas market on Marienplatz in Munich
is situated against a unique and picturesque backdrop, framed by the New Town Hall with its Glockenspiel and clock tower, the Marian Column, and the towers of the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady).
The Bavarian State Opera is located on Maximilianstrasse
In front of the entrance to the world-famous 5-star Hotel Bayerischer Hof on Promenadeplatz in downtown Munich,
stands not only the monument to pop musician Michael Jackson, who previously, and simultaneously, commemorated the court musician Orlando di Lasso, but also the larger-than-life statue (a full 6 meters high, an aluminum sculpture) of Maximilian Count von Montgelas, who was important to Bavaria and, among other things, introduced compulsory education.
