"Santa’s Isarzauber auf der Praterinsel" ist ein Ort für  Genuss und Romantik im Herzen Münchens. New markets have long since established themselves in courtyards, and entire streets, such as the new pedestrian zone on Sendlingerstrasse – from the Sendlinger Tor Christmas Market to the Christmas Market on Marienplatz – offer a new shopping experience.

Munich. Today we're on the trail of a secret: a small, cozy Christmas market that has been overlooked in Munich until now: the CHRISTMAS MARKET AT SCHNECKENPLATZ. This market was first held in 2019 under the name "Christmas Magic" in Schwanthalerhöhe. All the parents who play with their children here and in Bavariapark (playground) every day, as well as those who visit the restaurant at Bavariapark, are already looking forward to it. Because: a small, charming family Christmas market is currently being set up in Bavariapark in Schwanthalerhöhe – behind the Bavaria statue.

The location of the Christmas market at Schneckenplatz is familiar to Munich residents, because in front of the transport center is the large “Sweet Brown Snail” by the two artists Jason Rhoades and Paul McCarthy.

The children have plenty of space to run and play, and the adults have the Bavarian Inn at Bavariapark and the German Museum's Transportation Center within sight. The nearby Bavaria statue and the Feldherrnhalle are also worth a visit, as they offer a fantastic view across the Theresienwiese to the city, including the Frauenkirche spires.

At 4.50 meters tall, the snail sculpture "Sweet Brown Snail" blends seamlessly into its generously proportioned surroundings on the 23,000 square meter site between the Congress Hall and the Transportation Center.

As a public art project, the renowned American artists Jason Rhoades and Paul McCarthy created this object, which ironically reflects the mobility illustrated in the Transportation Center through the portable snail shell.

And the human yearning for speed, which resonates in the exhibits, is also reversed by the animal's inherent slowness. The snail's body, with its brick-red shell, stands out in a neutral gray against the light limestone from the Altmühl Valley that covers the entire plaza between the Congress Hall and the Transportation Center.

You simply have to see the idyllic "Christmas market on the ship" Alte Utting: the Starfleet around the old steamer shines until December 30th. in a Christmas atmosphere (on the old railway bridge: Lagerhausstraße 15 at the wholesale market in Munich).  Crafts and food stalls and the art exhibition can be visited during the week from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends and public holidays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. And the “mulled wine festival at the Cosima Wellenbad” in the Christmas Magic Forest in Munich-Bogenhausen also has over 30 different mulled wines on offer until January 6th, 2025 (we mention them all in our article in this blog Munich-Bogenhausen: Christmas Magic Forest with 35 Types of mulled wine and the opening times of the market)... And then there is the Christmas village in the Motorworld in Freimann: here our blog post about the winter world and Christmas village - There is a Christmas village with larger chalets, a larger ice skating rink, a colorful nostalgic carousel, a Christmas workshop for young and old and a delicious culinary offering. The winter magic at the Viktualienmarkt is open until January 4th, 2025. To go ice skating, go to the "Munich Ice Magic" at Stachus until January 12th - there are also lots of Bavarian delicacies there. And then there is the famous "Munich Feuerzangenbowle" and other hot drinks, which this year are offered behind the Schrannenhalle next to the historic bunker (very close to the Viktualienmarkt).

Munich. A nice idea for children and families is the “Post for the Christ Child” campaign. Today, on December 21st, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., the letters to the Christ child can be placed in a nativity scene in the cathedral of the state capital Munich. Last year, a child left a letter of wish in the Frauenkirche in Munich and asked that it be forwarded to the Christ Child. The idea was born: before Christmas, everyone could write down their wishes and greetings on site or bring them with them and place them in the nativity scene in the cathedral.

A “duel reality” show transforms Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” into a play about rivalry and solidarity.  Artistry, dance and acting elements will fascinate visitors to the Cirque Nouveau. There are athletic feats in one of the most emotional stories in world literature. There is no stop between the audience and the stage; the company involves the audience emotionally and intellectually in the event. The big question of our time “Which is stronger – separation through conflict or bonding through community?” will be provided!!! Admission to the Tollwood Winter Festival is free.

A traditional Christmas market with culinary delicacies from the region

 On December 14th and 15th, 2024 (from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) we will meet at the Landhotel Huber am See. BECAUSE: This weekend is Ambacher Advent again, which takes place on the spacious grounds of the country hotel. Anyone who goes to Ambach from time to time also knows the "Landhotel Huber am See", where on Fridays they serve the best fish soup in the lake and you should definitely try the fish platter for two people - that's the locals' insider tip.  

This weekend everyone meets for gingerbread, prints, stollen, a glass of mulled wine, hot chocolate or hot apple juice on the lakeshore.

Gift items for the Christmas tree

Many small stalls have already been set up on the Hotel Huber property and it already looks very cozy and Christmassy. Even Santa Claus will come again for the children. There is a large campfire to warm up outdoors and many artisans have fantastic gift ideas. There is something that makes your eyes shine on the tree: sparkling jewelry, carvers and Drexler work, fine knitwear that took thousands of hours to create, beeswax candles and even wooden nativity scenes and fine nativity scenes and accessories for your home nativity scene. Hoffischerei Seebald from Ammerland at the Ambacher Advent

For many years, the Huber am See farm has come to life in December and a Christmas market has been set up along the meadow until the middle of the month. Local bakers, fishermen and artisans have their Advent market stalls here: good, freshly smoked fish comes, of course, from the fisherman Seebald (master fisherman) from Ammerland. Whether you want to buy a small nativity figure, fine candles, a pre-Christmas present or just enjoy a mulled wine at the sunset by the lake, if you go here you can't go wrong.

“Gasthaus zum Fischmeister” from the Bierpichler on the Dampfersteg

Anyone who goes to Ambach knows the steamer jetty at the "Gasthaus zum Fischmeister", which belongs to the actor Sepp Bierpichler (Seeuferstraße 31). The inn has been around for 150 years and there was always fresh fish here.

The mulled wine selection suggests a creative palate, as the selection of 35 varieties suggests many days of testing. At the Christmas market there are also crepes, waffles, langosch, bratwurst, schnitzel, burgers, and Ugandan specialties - i.e. hearty snacks and delicacies. A children's carousel, various weekend craft activities and a Christmas wheel of fortune. In addition, decorated, illuminated and heated tents invite you to linger - e.g. for family or friend gatherings and much more. Munich. If you're looking for a Christmas feeling and want to experience something different, you could find what you're looking for in the Winterworld on the outside area of ​​the Munich Motorworld. Everything has been running smoothly there for a few days, as smoothly as the festively illuminated Ferris wheel. The Freimann district in Munich has this special Christmas market including a Christmas-decorated Motorworld until December 29, 2024. Magical moments in the Winterworld Motorworld - because Wednesday is Children's Day! A highlight of Winterworld is the “Flying Santa Claus”, which floats over the guests in his reindeer sleigh at a height of 30 meters and a length of 120 meters.

Or you can book a complete package - ideal for Christmas parties for companies and clubs with a capacity of up to 250 people

There is a 16 x 4 meter ice skating rink with skate rental available on site. After an ice dance or a few throws at the curling rink, a ride on the Ferris wheel and a drink from the mulled wine pyramid, you can still stroll through the Christmas market. The Winter Village invites you to linger in the traditional Christmas spirit. There are six exclusively bookable, heated chalets with a fireplace, a fire tongs stand and a standing area with cribs and fire tables.

The typical Christmas catering can also be booked - the chalets, which can accommodate up to 10 people, can also be booked individually.

Colorful Christmas culinary diversity in the Winterworld Motorworld

The classic mulled wine, Feuerzangenbowle, eggnog, warm cocktails, hot chocolate or children's punch are always warming in winter weather.
