Christmas markets in Munich 2024

Christmas market in Munich's old town

The Christmas markets in Munich city center offer Feuerzangenbowle, a medieval atmosphere, a fairytale village and the romance of ice skating

Here is an overview of the Christmas markets in Munich's old town (Français, ItalianoDeutsch)

 Munich.
The Munich Christmas market takes place in the heart of the city. Directly in front of Munich City Hall, the market is open until December 24, 2023, between Marienplatz and Rindermarkt. The Christmas tree at Marienplatz is a gift and Munich has even more Christmas markets to offer...

The popular Christmas village in the Kaiserhof of the Munich Residenz

The Christmas village in the residence offers everything from handicrafts to mulled wine. A Christmas market in the castle with a fairytale world is a must for young and old!

Location: Residence - Kaiserhof

Winter magic at the Viktualienmarkt

Visitors to the market get to experience the Munich way of life during the Christmas season. A fine nativity scene in the beer garden reflects the market events.

Munich ice cream magic at Karlsplatz-Stachus

Bring your skates, rent them, put them on and off you go, because this New Year's Eve "Bavaria's largest mobile ice arena" will be rebuilt at Stachus!

On Mondays, anyone wearing a dirndl or lederhosen can scurry across the ice during the “Tracht on Ice” with free entry.
A new program is offered every day and party hits are played during “Saturday Night” fever.
And another treat: on Sunday, two people can get on the shiny ice on Karlsplatz for the price of one.

Location: Karlsplatz-Stachus - behind the Karlstor (historic city gate)

Christmas market at Sendlinger Tor

At the Sendlinger Tor, which, along with the Isartor and Karlstor, is one of the last relics of the old Munich city fortifications. There are many gift ideas here such as nativity scenes from Tyrol and Peru, Christmas tree baubles, scented oils, ceramics, wooden toys and much more.

Location: Sendlinger-Tor-Platz

Munich Advent spectacle and medieval Christmas market

The Middle Ages come to life in the wooden houses on Wittelsbacher Platz near Odeonsplatz. Even the traders wear historical costumes and, in addition to old craftsmanship, there are many culinary dishes based on medieval recipes such as flambée and so on.

Location: Wittelsbacher Platz, Briennerstraße 6-10

The Munich Feuerzangenbowle

During the 2024 Christmas season you will not find it at the Isartor, but between the Schrannenhalle and the Hochbunker not far from the Viktualienmarkt.

What would Advent be without the famous Munich Feuerzangenbowle?! The special punch made from a mixture of red wine, rum and spices is “hotly traded”. The huge cauldron is reminiscent of the druid Miraculix's magic potion from the Asterix comics and is poured with a crown of flames.

Location: between the Schrannenhalle and the Hochbunker, not in the Viktualienmarkt

... and you can get there quickly from the city center
