Starnberg Lake. Anyone visiting Munich should not forget the many lakes in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. The water temperature in Lake Starnberg, which is almost 128 meters deep, is currently (December 13, 2024) at 7 degrees and can still increase a little. So: no swimming weather! A traditional Christmas market with culinary delicacies from the region

 On December 14th and 15th, 2024 (from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) we will meet at the Landhotel Huber am See. BECAUSE: This weekend is Ambacher Advent again, which takes place on the spacious grounds of the country hotel. Anyone who goes to Ambach from time to time also knows the "Landhotel Huber am See", where on Fridays they serve the best fish soup in the lake and you should definitely try the fish platter for two people - that's the locals' insider tip.  

This weekend everyone meets for gingerbread, prints, stollen, a glass of mulled wine, hot chocolate or hot apple juice on the lakeshore.

Gift items for the Christmas tree

Many small stalls have already been set up on the Hotel Huber property and it already looks very cozy and Christmassy. Even Santa Claus will come again for the children. There is a large campfire to warm up outdoors and many artisans have fantastic gift ideas. There is something that makes your eyes shine on the tree: sparkling jewelry, carvers and Drexler work, fine knitwear that took thousands of hours to create, beeswax candles and even wooden nativity scenes and fine nativity scenes and accessories for your home nativity scene. But what would it all be without the many painting and drawing artists who offer their pictures and unique pieces for sale here.

Hoffischerei Seebald from Ammerland at the Ambacher Advent

For many years, the Huber am See farm has come to life in December and a Christmas market has been set up along the meadow until the middle of the month. Local bakers, fishermen and artisans have their Advent market stalls here: good, freshly smoked fish comes, of course, from the fisherman Seebald (master fisherman) from Ammerland. Whether you want to buy a small nativity figure, fine candles, a pre-Christmas present or just enjoy a mulled wine at the sunset by the lake, if you go here you can't go wrong.

“Gasthaus zum Fischmeister” from the Bierpichler on the Dampfersteg

Anyone who goes to Ambach knows the steamer jetty at the "Gasthaus zum Fischmeister", which belongs to the actor Sepp Bierpichler (Seeuferstraße 31). The inn has been around for 150 years and there was always fresh fish here.

Winter magic in Munich at the Viktualienmarkt! This is an Advent and Christmas market with freshly squeezed juices, mulled wine, Munich white sausage or fish rolls and chocolate

Munich. Viktualienmarkt - Winter Magic 2024. Until January 4th, 2025, Monday to Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (on December 24th, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). Stroll, feast, taste, shop with free admission while sipping on mulled wine, hot chocolate or a liver loaf roll!

A very special winter magic welcomes visitors to the Viktualienmarkt this year: the 110 local traders with tropical fruits, meat, game, poultry, various types of cheese, fish, bread and baked goods and fragrant spice stands have been joined by 30 winter magic stalls , which promise a pleasant shopping and tour.

In the large Christmas nativity scene on the Viktualienmarkt there are carved wooden figures that are modeled on the market people - it's worth taking a closer look here.

Christmas nativity scene and culinary specialties from all over the world and from Bavaria

And of course there is a nativity scene, hot drinks, a gift stand and sweets. How about a good bottle of olive oil or a fragrant arrangement for the celebration this year? It gets particularly atmospheric here from 5 p.m., when all the Viktualienmarkt stalls are bathed in festive light. Here you can shop perfectly on the market's total area of ​​18,591 square meters.

The Viktualienmarkt is the Munich way of life. Weisswurst, Munich beer, fresh pretzels and mulled wine, that's not all that underlines the charm of the market and its many stalls. The Christmas lighting and the nativity scene in the beer garden, modeled on the traders, also make it a place that you have to visit before Christmas. The market events were captured by the carvers in the nativity figures and enchant young and old alike!
