Munich. Anyone strolling through Munich during these pre-Christmas days and visiting one of the numerous Christmas markets will notice that the city cherishes its cultural traditions. The city's oldest Christmas market takes place on Munich's Marienplatz from November 24th to December 24th, 2025.

New markets have long since established themselves in courtyards, and entire streets, such as the new pedestrian zone on Sendlingerstrasse – from the Sendlinger Tor Christmas Market to the Christmas Market on Marienplatz – offer a new shopping experience.

The Tollwood Winter Festival... has established itself in Munich on the Theresienwiese as an organic alternative to the traditional Christmas market.
- The Winter Festival takes place from November 25 to December 31, 2025, on the Theresienwiese.

The Christmas Village in the Imperial Courtyard of the Munich Residence
Here, children can enjoy the fairytale forest with talking, life-size fairytale figures, while adults can enjoy live music and mulled wine.

The Medieval Christmas Market

Take the Christkindl Tram through the Old Town
...and enjoy sweets, mulled wine, and music. This is also part of Munich's pre-Christmas experience. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes.
The Munich Christmas Tram 2025
From Friday, November 28th, to Saturday, December 20th
Departures:
- Fridays between 3:30 pm and 8:00 pm
- and on Advent weekends between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm.
Starting point: Special stop at the fountain loop at Sendlinger-Tor-Platz
Travel duration: The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Last departure at 7:15 pm.
Running times:
- Fridays between 3:30 pm and 8:00 pm,
- on Advent weekends every 45 minutes between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm
Tickets: Ticket reservations are possible online; tickets are also available on site.
Fare: Adults: €5, Children (6-14 years): €3, Children under 6: free
