The annual Japan Festival in the Kanshoan Teahouse is a celebration of international understanding

Sunday, July 21, 2024 - until around 6 p.m. behind the Haus der Kunst in the English Garden

Munich. The Japan Festival in the English Garden now has a 27-year tradition. This morning the Japanese Consul General opened the festival with an opening speech. What can visitors expect here? Here you can learn more about Japanese life, food, culture and the arts. Today, everyone can be part of the Japanese teahouse Kanshoan. There are great prizes to be won in the cosplay competition. What is that?  Cosplay is the fan practice that comes from Japan and has spread to America and finally to Europe since the 1990s thanks to a global manga and anime boom. Anyone who takes part in this competition comes in the disguise of a character from a manga, film, anime, video game or similar and faithfully portrays that character in behavior and costume in persona. The best characters will win at the Japan Festival today! Admission is free. The event location is behind the Haus der Kunst not far from the Hofgarten in the English Garden.
