The town of Hessisch Oldendorf in Lower Saxony (Hameln-Pyrmont district) is buzzing with anticipation as the *Käferfreunde* (Volkswagen Veteranen Hessisch Oldendorf e.V.)—a group of enthusiasts working entirely on a voluntary basis—prepare for this gathering of Beetle lovers. The goal is to preserve the history and artifacts—namely, the vintage classic Volkswagens themselves. Since the first VW vintage meet in 1996, Hessisch Oldendorf has been a pilgrimage site for Beetle enthusiasts from all over the world every four years. They demonstrate that it is not just the cars, but the hearts of the collectors, that preserve the legacy of Volkswagen's many early models. Around 900 historic VW vehicles are expected at this "Mecca for all vintage car and chrome fans." Look forward to seeing beautiful "old" VW Beetles, Buses (Bullis), Kübelwagens, and Karmann-Ghias. Add the Brazilian VW SP2 to the mix, and the famous old town transforms into a vast open-air museum along the Weser River. In addition to the VW meet, visitors and enthusiasts can look forward to a swap meet and a scenic drive through the Weser Uplands (Weserbergland). Legends will also prove their ability to float—specifically the Schwimmwagens, which will carry passengers across the Weser River for a good cause; the Großenwieden ferry landing will be a prime spot for photographers.

VW Enthusiasts Look Forward to “HO26”

VW enthusiasts prick up their ears at the abbreviation “HO.” The small town of Hessisch Oldendorf is located in northwestern Lower Saxony. From June 25 to 28, 2026, fans and drivers of vintage VW vehicles will gather there.

L'effervescence gagne la ville de Hessisch Oldendorf, en Basse-Saxe (arrondissement de Hamelin-Pyrmont), alors que les *Käferfreunde* (Volkswagen Veteranen Hessisch Oldendorf e.V.) — un groupe de passionnés œuvrant entièrement bénévolement — préparent ce rassemblement d'amoureux de la Coccinelle. L'objectif est de préserver l'histoire et le patrimoine, à savoir les Volkswagen classiques elles-mêmes. Depuis le premier rassemblement de VW historiques en 1996, Hessisch Oldendorf est devenu, tous les quatre ans, un lieu de pèlerinage pour les passionnés de Coccinelles venus du monde entier. Ils prouvent que ce ne sont pas seulement les voitures, mais aussi le cœur des collectionneurs, qui perpétuent l'héritage des nombreux modèles historiques de Volkswagen. Environ 900 véhicules VW historiques sont attendus dans ce haut lieu pour les amateurs de voitures anciennes et de chromes. Vous pourrez y admirer de magnifiques VW « anciennes » : Coccinelles, Combi (Bulli), Kübelwagen et Karmann-Ghia. Ajoutez-y la VW SP2 brésilienne, et la célèbre vieille ville se transforme en un vaste musée à ciel ouvert le long de la Weser. Outre le rassemblement VW, les visiteurs et passionnés pourront profiter d'une bourse d'échange et  d'une balade pittoresque à travers les collines du Weserbergland. La cittadina di Hessisch Oldendorf, in Bassa Sassonia (distretto di Hameln-Pyrmont), è in fermento: i *Käferfreunde* (Volkswagen Veteranen Hessisch Oldendorf e.V.) – un gruppo di appassionati che opera interamente su base volontaria – si stanno preparando per questo raduno dedicato agli amanti del Maggiolino. L'obiettivo è preservare la storia e i veicoli stessi: le classiche Volkswagen d'epoca. Sin dal primo raduno VW d'epoca nel 1996, Hessisch Oldendorf è diventata, ogni quattro anni, una meta di pellegrinaggio per gli appassionati del Maggiolino provenienti da tutto il mondo. Essi dimostrano che non sono solo le auto, ma anche i cuori dei collezionisti a custodire l'eredità dei numerosi modelli Volkswagen delle origini. Sono attesi circa 900 veicoli storici VW in questa "Mecca per tutti gli appassionati di auto d'epoca e cromature". I visitatori potranno ammirare splendidi Maggiolini, Bulli, Kübelwagen e Karmann-Ghia "d'antan". Aggiungendo al mix la brasiliana VW SP2, il celebre centro storico si trasforma in un vasto museo a cielo aperto lungo il fiume Weser. Motorworld Munich. The fifth anniversary of Motorworld Munich was celebrated by over 20,000 enthusiastic visitors. Excitement was palpable right from the start of the event in the morning, and the festivities continued deep into the night. Motorworld’s high-caliber brand portfolio was on full display, featuring international manufacturers of premium and super sports cars—including BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, Maserati, Lotus, Renault Alpine, Triumph Motorcycles, Porsche, Genesis, Pal-V, Microlino, and Sonax—as well as various American car brands. The event also showcased exclusive vehicle customizers, specialists, and service providers—most notably Allianz, Motorworld’s partner and insurance provider, as well as the event’s title sponsor.

Rare icons of automotive history stood side by side at the anniversary celebration:

• a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss,
• a prized Ferrari Enzo,
• a BMW 3.0 CSL prototype,
• as well as the one-of-a-kind BMW M8 MotoGP Safety Car—

to name just a few of the rarities on display.

This high-caliber presentation was further complemented by a multitude of classic automobiles:

• ranging from the James Bond icon—the Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation—
• to lovingly restored VW Beetles,
• and even a Messerschmitt Kabinenroller;
• these vehicles were showcased as part of the "Show Parking" area, alongside many other noteworthy collectibles on both two and four wheels.

Maren Braun moderated the emotional highlights – a perfect blend of technology, emotion, and entertainment:

The firing up of the two original BMW Sauber F1 Team Formula 1 race cars from the 2007 season gave the audience goosebumps.

The exciting auction by Lisette Rosenkranz crowned the day's program with an interesting selection of lots, with a maximum bid of around €50,000.

All the tenants at Motorworld Munich participated in the event with great creativity and commitment, creating an unforgettable experience with a multitude of fascinating highlights.

A spectacular nighttime drive-through and the grand anniversary party provided a dazzling finale to the day.

May Beetle: VW Classic Car Meet 2026

 VW Classic Car Meet in Hanover on May 1st 

 

On May 1st, nearly 10,000 visitors marveled at around 1,000 vintage vehicles during the 43rd VW "MaiKäferTreffen" (May Beetle Meet) in Hanover—confirming for all classic car enthusiasts that the way to the heart still runs through the car!

 

VW Beetles, "Bullis" (VW Vans), and more... in Hanover, you’ll see nothing but "H-plates" (historic vehicle license plates)—and some cars even sport two of them: one in the front and one in the back! ;-))))) (ENGLISH, ITALIANO, DEUTSCH)

 

Hanover – VW May Beetle Meet. The sun was shining, and today, over 1,000 VW Beetles, Bullis, and similar models vied with one another to see which could shine the brightest. They were admired by 10,000 classic car enthusiasts. This gathering isn't just about automotive design; it celebrates a car that, for generations, has become a cherished cultural icon—personally experienced, deeply loved, and truly lived. A good 20 years after production ceased, fans of the VW Beetle are still gathering in Hanover with their magnificent machines... It is hard to believe that series production of the VW Beetle began just over 80 years ago... From the start of mass production in late 1945 through 1955, a subtle evolution in the model could be observed—we need only mention the "Pretzel Window" (Beetle Type 1)! (See photo)... 50 years ago, the "Beetle City" of Wolfsburg saw the Beetle overtake the Model T in sales figures, thereby becoming the "World Champion" of production volume... The Beetle Was a Product of the "Economic Miracle"

In total, 21,529,464 Volkswagen "Beetles" were produced, and the country became increasingly mobile. Many nations imported the Beetle; consequently, this distinctively rounded vehicle also became an "ambassador and symbol of goodwill for Germany."

The very last Volkswagen Beetle ever produced—bearing the chassis number B84M905162—is finished in "Aquarius Blue." Incidentally, it rolled off the assembly line in Puebla, Mexico, on July 30, 2003, at 9:05 a.m.

The new beginnings of the mobile world will be visualized with three special vehicles from Autostadt. It's hard to believe, but over 80 years ago, series production of the VW Beetle began …. Furthermore, production of road-legal sports cars began, and a prototype from the ZeitHaus collection was presented to the public for the first time: the Lamborghini Diablo – equipped with a 16-cylinder Bugatti engine. The special "4x4 Performance" motor show featured various classic sports cars with all-wheel drive. Among them was the test vehicle that marked the brand's relaunch within the Volkswagen Group and paved the way for the Veyron.

80 Years of the VW Beetle: From "Zero Hour" to Millionaire

Autostadt Wolfsburg will be presenting mobile exhibits from its ZeitHaus collection:

From the start of Beetle series production at the end of 1945 until 1955, a subtle evolution of the model could be observed: we'll just mention the "Pretzel Disc" (Beetle Type 1)... At the Bremen Classic Motorshow, the last example produced in 1945 will be on display (completed on December 30).

A cutaway model of a 1948 Beetle offers extraordinary insights into the technology of this bestseller.

The third exhibit is the one-millionth Volkswagen: a unique golden model from 1955.

The relaunch of Bugatti within the Volkswagen Group is being visualized in Bremen.

The bright yellow Lamborghini Diablo is a real eye-catcher. Autostadt is presenting the model at the special exhibition "4x4 Performance":

In the prototype on display, the heart of the legendary W16 engine beat for the first time, instead of the Lamborghini V12. This engine made the Bugatti Veyron an icon over the years.

The tubular space frame was lengthened and modified to accommodate the sixteen-cylinder engine with its eight-liter displacement and four turbochargers.

At the show, the yellow prototype is displayed with its body panels removed, allowing visitors a glimpse of the incredible drivetrain in the rear.

The VW 1200 and VW 1300 came onto the road a good 70 years ago under the nickname BEETLE and continue to delight classic car fans and veterans to this day

 

Automotive history: the VW Beetle as a classic car, a hit with a boxer engine

Wolfsburg - Munich - Herford. Beetle! In 70 years, a total of 22 million vehicles were produced from the VW Beetle, which was actually called the VW 1200 and VW 1300. Enthusiasts and fans have all Beetle models to this day. We can't go into the whole VW Beetle story here, just this much about its origins: The Volkswagen from 1935 had a whopping 22.5 hp and an air-cooled boxer engine. The boxer remained, only the horsepower increased a little ;-)) : a maximum of 50 hp. This weekend (January 11th and 12th, 2025) was the VW Beetle and veterans winter meeting at the freight station in Herford. For us, this is an opportunity to remember legendary Beetle models, because anyone who has ever driven a Beetle knows: “Love runs through the car”. For example, there was the Hebmüller Beetle convertible from 1949, which was built in 696 units. Another unique Beetle was the Stoll Beetle Coupé from 1952, which was built as a one-off edition 1 of 1. These variants can only be found in the museum. Their rarity and special bodies turned some unconventional models into high-quality collector's specimens and wrote VW history. By the way, the “Zeithaus” at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg (open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) has some on display and is always worth a visit! Convertible history was made with the “Sliced ​​Beetle” from 1947

The roof of the VW 1200 Beetle Cabriolet was simply removed, and from then on it entered the parlance of automotive history as the “Cold Beetle”. The Beetle cold cuts were then produced in a quantity of 120,000 copies. A convertible made history and was in demand from then on. To this day, classic Beetle convertibles still promise pure driving pleasure.

Until the 1970s, the VW Beetle was one of the most frequently driven police vehicles

The Hebmüller Beetle convertible from 1949 was available in 696 copies. In addition to the convertibles, Hebmüller also came with a Beetle police version that had simpler door versions for better and quicker access during operations - sometimes just a thick cord! A few years ago, the Berlin Police School received a Beetle Peterwagen for its teaching purposes, which is of course also a wonderful museum piece.
The VW 1300 Peterwagen was used as a police vehicle until well into the 1970s. This dark green vehicle with white fenders and blue lights on the roof also had a megaphone on the right front fender and was quickly on the scene.

Germany. Bremen Classic Motor Show. Since 2003, this trade fair has started in Bremen at the beginning of the classic car year. With the start of the season, almost 50,000 guests are expected to talk shop about classic cars from February 2nd to 4th, 2024 and be amazed at which models have been restored. The eight halls cover 52,000 square meters of exhibition space and numerous companies display their classic cars and everything around them. In Bremen, for example, you can also experience a journey through time with Volkswagen Group brands. As part of the mobile anniversaries, the Autostadt from Wolfsburg is presenting “50 Years of Volkswagen Scirocco”. The anniversary year “50 Years of Volkswagen Golf” will also be celebrated under the motto “Volkswagen Classic”. And then there is the commercial vehicle division, which is at least there with “45 years of the third generation of the Volkswagen Transporter”. And the sister Audi shows itself in a mobile tradition and brings with it the first generation of the Audi RS 4 Avant. “Four brands, four anniversaries, one stand,” is how the Autostadt announces its presentation, which makes us curious. So off to “Volkswagen Classic, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Vintage Cars and Audi Tradition Parts” in Hall 5 of the Bremen Classic Motorshow.

Golf and Scirocco from the ZeitHaus (Wolfsburg)

In 1974 there was a mobile debut and the classic Golf racer was born, followed by the Scirocco as a coupé. It was developed by Karmann in Osnabrück and was available with 50 HP, 70 HP and then as a TS with 85 HP. The “viper green” Scirocco GT from the first generation and a Scirocco II GT II (1992) were exhibited in Bremen - the latter is presented in the color tornado red and comes from the collection of the ZeitHaus (automobile museum) in Wolfsburg.

50 years of VW Golf - an icon celebrates its birthday

Certainly some Golf drivers will reminisce when they discover the Golf I. The Volkswagen icon turns 50 this year! And what's best: VW is showing the “unique EA 276 study” and presenting the forerunner of the Golf from 1969, which was built in Wolfsburg.

Back then it was an automotive revolution, let's say, when the Golf became the successor to the legendary Beetle in 1974. This was followed by front-wheel drive instead of rear engines. There was now enough space for a tailgate to easily load a large trunk, which offered endless space thanks to a folding rear seat back.

Let's come to the linear design, which was conceived by none other than Giorgetto Giugiaro and which from then on would become the design language at VW. A basic line continues to today's Golf VIII. Well, here and there people were surprised and it took a while (with every new Golf model) for the NEW one to become embedded in the viewing habits of Golf fans. But every time you switched to a new model you realized: the old Golf was nice, but this one makes you quickly forget it.

The Golf quickly became the favorite model of many drivers and the first million were sold in 1976. It's hard to believe, but Volkswagen has delivered 37 million units of this successful model to date. The compact car is considered the “most successful European car” and the Golf is the best-selling VW of all time”.

VW GOLF is therefore AN ICON OF MOBILITY!!!

 

45 years of Volkswagen Transporter

The Bulli T1 was designed on the drawing board in 1947 and was the first transporter to be produced at Volkswagen in 1950. The T2 was already at car shows in 1979.

 In Bremen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Oldtimer presents the very first Type 2 Transporter of the third generation, the Bus L from 1979, and the T3 Microbus from South Africa, which was manufactured in 1994. - By the way, the last T3 rolled off the assembly line there in 2002 (production had already ended in Germany in 1990).



The Beck’s bus (1964) combines the Bremen and Hanover tradition.

A unique item will be shown next to the exhibition stand of the 1st Käfer Club Wolfsburg e.V.

 Let's come to AUDI and thus the Audi RS 4 Avant

At the trade fair in Bremen, the exclusive high-performance station wagon will be shown as an eye-catcher in Imola yellow.


“Audi Tradition Parts” presents the Audi RS 4 Avant, the first generation that was presented at the 1999 IAA in Frankfurt. This model also became a hit. The performance, sportiness and suitability for everyday use were all right, as he had already succeeded in working with Porsche with the Avant RS2 and the first RS model from quattro GmbH followed.

Spare parts and accessory offers

At the classic car fair in Bremen, spare parts and accessories from Audi Tradition Parts will also be available to supplement missing parts for the restoration of fans' cars.
