Nürburgring. A tip for vintage fans of sports cars that made racing history: the weekend of August 7–9 is dedicated to everything from pre-war sports cars to modern prototypes. Rare vehicles and their famous drivers will gather at the Nürburgring. A fantastic program awaits everyone at this classic motoring event. The Nürburgring will host the most fascinating race cars and motorcycles that shaped a century of motorsport history. The 53rd BELMOT Oldtimer-Grand-Prix spans the spectrum from pre-war sports cars and front-engined Grand Prix cars to legendary GTs, Group 5 racers, and high-revving Super Touring Cars, as well as formula cars, modern prototypes, and thoroughbred Ferrari race cars. On the track, spectators will see sports car icons such as the Maserati 450S and Porsche 550 A Spyder, Grand Prix classics from the early days of Formula 1, and touring cars from the DTM, STW, and DRM series. The sporting program is complemented by demonstration runs, historic motorcycles, the OGP Track Day on the Nordschleife, and a wide range of activities in the paddock areas.
A weekend featuring sports car treasures from two eras of motorsport history
One of the weekend's highlights is the classic sports car race held on Saturday evening. Hubertus Graf Dönhoff, OGP founder and host of this invitational event, has once again assembled a top-class field.
Special treats include:
- a rare Porsche 550 A Spyder
- and a Maserati 450S—alongside this V8 sports car from Modena,
- other representatives of the marque are present, such as a Maserati 300S
- and a Maserati A6GCS
- Porsche 904,
- Aston Martin DB4 GT,
- two Lister-Jaguars—including one with Costin bodywork—
- as well as Bizzarrini and Iso Grifo
- Lotus with a Ferrari V12 engine
- several Lotus XIs
- Lola Mk I
The Vintage Sports Car Trophy goes back even further, representing the racing world of the pre-war era:
- Supercharged Mercedes,
- Bugatti Type 51,
- Alfa Romeo 8C,
- Bentley Blower.

From Front-Engined F1 to Formula 5000
The British HGPCA is bringing an exceptionally strong field to the Nürburgring: over 50 Grand Prix cars that trace the technical evolution from front- to rear-engine layouts.
No fewer than nine Maseratis have been announced, including several 250Fs—the very model with which Juan Manuel Fangio, Jean Behra, and Stirling Moss made history at the Nürburgring in the 1950s.
They are joined by numerous other vehicles, primarily from the early years of Formula 1. Bridging the gap to more recent eras of formula racing is the Formula Heritage series, showcasing single-seaters from Formula 3, Formula 2, Formula 1, Formula 3000, and Formula 5000.
Notable entries include an Alfa Romeo Formula 1 car with a history linked to Mario Andretti, as well as a Theodore driven by Johnny Cecotto.
Fans can already vote for their favorites across the five vehicle classes via the OGP website.
Touring Car Heroes and Turbo Monsters
The great eras of touring car racing feature prominently at the OGP. The DRM Revival recalls the spectacular Group 5 era with race cars that remain fascinating to this day:
The Ford Turbo Capri, BMW 2002, and Porsche 935 compete alongside the "smaller" Ford Escort, BMW 320, Opel Manta, and others, just as they did back in the day.
In the "Golden Era" touring car races, prominent drivers are once again bringing the glory days of the DTM and related series back to life.
- Participants include Roland and Sebastian Asch in the Ford Sierra RS500,
- Kris Nissen in the BMW E30,
- as well as Leopold Prince of Bavaria
- and Marc Hessel.

- and Harald Grohs are also part of the star-studded lineup.

High-revving two-liter race cars from manufacturers such as Opel, BMW, and Audi define the Super Touring Revival
Particular attention will likely be focused on Uwe Alzen, who is piloting his original 1998 Opel Vectra STW.
The Class One Revival focuses on DTM machines from the more recent past in a driving event—including the Schnitzer Motorsport BMW E92 GT2 driven by Alzen and the DTM championship-winning car from Bruno Spengler’s 2012 season, driven by Dirk Adorf. The Golden Era Classic Cup—featuring historic Porsche Cup cars ranging from the 944 Turbo to several generations of the 911—serves as a perfect complement to the touring car program.
From classic GTs to modern sports car prototypes
Two series competing for points in the German Historic Automobile Championship showcase further facets of historic touring car, sports car, and GT racing.
In the HC ’65 (Historic Championship ’65), competitors battle for victory and points across two 30-minute sprint races. Highlights include an extremely rare Ferrari 330 GTO and an Aston Martin DP214 replica.
The HC ’81 series continues the timeline up to 1981; a 90-minute race on Saturday—featuring a mandatory pit stop—sees the likes of the Ford GT40, De Tomaso Mangusta, Chevron B6, and Porsche 907 Short-Tail go head-to-head.
The OGP’s long tradition of dedicated Ferrari racing continues this year with the Trophy Race for Ferrari Cars. The field spans everything from older Challenge and GT3 models to the modern Ferrari 296 Challenge.
The Interwetten Sports Car Challenge brings the action even closer to the present day: fast prototypes and GT cars deliver modern sports car thrills—featuring former Formula 1 driver Christian Klien as a star participant.
As you can see, this promises to be a racing weekend where you can get up close to the action.
On two wheels, the journey through time at the BELMOT Oldtimer Grand Prix spans from the late 1920s to the early 1980s:
You can view the historic racing motorcycles from the "GrabTheFlag!" riders' association up close in the Historic Paddock and watch them in action during demonstration runs on both the Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife.
- The OGP Trackday also heads to the Nordschleife on Friday, giving owners of both modern and historic vehicles the chance to conquer the legendary racetrack themselves.
- There is plenty to discover beyond the racing action, too.
- Partners such as BELMOT, Motor Klassik, and Junghans are curating a diverse program featuring exhibitions, panel discussions, and a variety of other activities.
- In the Grand Prix paddock, visitors can meet teams, brand clubs, dealers, and participants from most of the racing series. This is also where popular autograph sessions with famous drivers take place.

- The highlight is the auction taking place on Saturday midday.
Vehicle exhibitions and the AMG Arena—featuring the top brand club gathering—provide further thematic highlights.
Now in its 53rd edition, the BELMOT Oldtimer Grand Prix once again combines top-class historic motorsport with close-up access to the vehicles, teams, and drivers.
This makes the weekend not only a gathering place for enthusiasts but also an ideal destination for a family outing:
- Children and young people up to the age of 17 (inclusive) enjoy free admission when accompanied by an adult ticket holder.
