Munich abrite six grandes brasseries : Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu, Hofbräu, Paulaner et Spaten — chacune possédant de nombreuses tavernes et jardins à bière ENGLISH - DEUTSCH - ITALIANO - FRANÇAIS

 

Munich. Au cœur de la ville, un jardin à bière en particulier change de bière vedette toutes les cinq à six semaines : au jardin situé sur le Viktualienmarkt, les visiteurs peuvent déguster une bière munichoise différente toutes les quelques semaines — qu'ils soient debout au bar ou assis dans le jardin lui-même. Par ailleurs, vous pourrez également déguster ces six variétés de bière lors de la 191e Oktoberfest de Munich, sur la Theresienwiese, qui se déroulera du 19 septembre au 4 octobre 2026... peut-être sur une période de six jours — une *Maß* (chope d'un litre) par jour... Les tavernes et jardins à bière appartenant à chacune de ces brasseries sont disséminés à travers tout Munich. Au fait, la Journée internationale de la bière est célébrée dans le monde entier chaque année le premier vendredi d'août ; en 2026, elle tombera le 7 août ! En de pareils moments, une seule chose s'impose : souhaiter la bienvenue dans la belle ville cosmopolite de Munich... ou, comme le disent souvent les Bavarois aux touristes dans les tentes à bière : « Hock di her, dann san ma mehr ! » (Installe-toi — plus on est de fous, plus on rit !)

Le *Reinheitsgebot* (Loi sur la pureté)

Le *Reinheitsgebot* et le « test du Lederhose » : si la culotte de cuir restait collée au banc, c'est que la bière avait réussi l'épreuve... Alors, en route pour Munich ! Cette magnifique ville, avec ses fêtes de la bière, vaut toujours le voyage. Outre l'eau, le malt, le houblon et la levure, rien d'autre n'est autorisé dans la cuve de brassage — et les sommeliers en bière en connaissent chaque variété.

Augustiner-Bräu : un délice pour le cœur ! — La brasserie Augustiner est la plus ancienne de Munich.

La brasserie fut fondée en l'an 1328, ce qui en fait la plus ancienne brasserie de Munich encore en activité. Augustiner-Bräu a toujours banni la publicité et a constamment utilisé une bouteille ventrue distinctive, tandis que d'autres brasseries adoptaient la bouteille élancée de type « NRW » pour l'embouteillage. La brasserie Augustiner est située au sud des voies ferrées, sur la Landsberger Straße, près du pont Hackerbrücke ; quiconque passe en voiture reconnaîtra son long mur de briques.

Mais revenons brièvement à l'histoire : dès 1328, les moines de l'ordre des Augustins brassaient déjà leur première bière — un breuvage qui gagna rapidement en popularité à travers toute la Bavière. La brasserie « Augustiner » fut privatisée en 1817. À ce jour, l'étiquette de l'Augustiner *Hell* (lager blonde) est ornée de l'image du moine augustin ventru.

Freddie Mercury, qui vécut à Munich pendant près de dix ans, est représenté sur la couverture du livre

In the heart of the city, one particular beer garden rotates its featured beer variety every five to six weeks: at the beer garden located within the Viktualienmarkt, visitors can enjoy a different Munich beer every few weeks—whether standing at the bar or seated in the garden itself. Incidentally, you can also sample all six of these beer varieties at the 191st Munich Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese grounds, running from September 19 to October 4, 2026 ... perhaps over the course of six days—one *Maß* (liter mug) per day ...  Augustiner-Bräu, gladden your heart! - The Augustiner Brewery is Munich's oldest brewery

The brewery was founded in 1328, making it the oldest brewery still in existence in Munich. The Augustiner-Bräu always refrained from advertising and always used a bulbous bottle, while other breweries used the narrow NRW bottle for bottling. The Augustiner Brewery is located south of the railway tracks on Landsberger Straße at the Hackerbrücke. Anyone passing by will recognize the long brick wall.

But back to history: The monks of the Augustinian Order produced the first beer to enjoy popularity throughout Bavaria as early as 1328. The "Augustiner" was privatized in 1817. The Augustiner Hell still bears the bulbous Augustinian monk as a label.

The Hacker-Pschorr Brewery was founded in 1417, in the late Middle Ages.

Hacker-Pschorr beer was first documented in 1417. At that time, the brewery was already located on Sendlinger Straße, not far from the town hall (Old Town Hall - now the Toy Museum). Today, the "Altes Hackerhaus" restaurant is still located here.

From the 18th century onward, the Munich couple Joseph Pschorr and Maria Theresia Hacker led their company to the top of Munich's breweries. Through inheritance, the Hacker Brewery and Pschorr Brewery split, resulting in two beer brands. Since 1972, the brewery has been brewed again under the dual name "Hacker-Pschorr."

The former brewery site was located south of the Hacker Bridge. Hacker-Pschorr is now part of the Paulaner Beer Group. Hacker-Pschorr's 13 beers, some of which are brewed seasonally, are bottled exclusively in swing-top bottles.

Löwenbräu was founded behind the Frauenkirche in the Löwengrube (Lion's Den).

It was first brewed in the Middle Ages (late 14th century). The title "Löwenbräu" as a brand first appears in documents in 1746 (Munich Beer Brewery Catalogue). In the 19th century, the brewery, run by the Brey family, became the largest brewery in Munich. The Löwenbräu festival beer later originated on Nymphenburger Straße, where we can still find the Löwenbräukeller with its beer garden at Stiglmaierplatz. Incidentally, the famous Starkbierfest (strong beer festival) and the "Nacht der Tracht" (Night of Traditional Costume) are both popular events here.

Since 1997, the Spaten-Franziskaner-Löwenbräu Group has operated jointly under the Interbrew brewing group, now InBev.

The Hofbräu from the internationally renowned Hofbräuhaus am Platzl in Munich

The song "In Munich stands a Hofbräuhaus..." ( "In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus …") is world-famous and promotes the beer from the heart of the city. The beer has been brewed since 1589, when William V founded his ducal brewery. Since the 19th century, the brewery has been located on Innere Wiener Straße, where the spectacular, famous Hofbräukeller with its fabulous beer garden attracts visitors.

In 1939, Hofbräu passed into state ownership. The Staatliches Hofbräuhaus brewery in Munich is arguably the most well-known beer brand and was originally founded in the Alter Hof (Old Court). The famous Hofbräuhaus on Platzl, not far from the Viktualienmarkt, is now one of the city's most important tourist attractions. The brewery now operates just outside the city, near the exhibition center.

The Paulaner Brewery with the monk "Brother Barnabas"

The Paulaner Brewery was founded by monks in the Munich district of Au. It was in 1634 that the monks of the Paulaner Order brewed a beer that went down in history as the Paulaner Festbier and is still served at Oktoberfest today.

What was initially enjoyed only by monks soon flowed down the throats of Munich's beer lovers as Bock beer, made according to Brother Barnabas's old recipe. The Paulaner Brewery headquarters moved a few years ago (2016) from the famous Giesinger Nockherberg, known for the Starkbierfest (strong beer festival) with its famous "Derblecken" (poking fun at politicians), to Munich-Langwied.

The brewery's headquarters remain in the Au on Ohmüllerstraße, and above it is the Paulaner am Nockherberg, a popular beer garden and festival venue for the annual Starkbierfest (strong beer festival), with its keynote speech and musical comedy. The Paulaner Brewery is one of the sponsors of FC Bayern Munich.

Spatenbräu - The "Spaten" brand tapped the first "Münchner Hell"

The famous Spaten Brewery also originated in the Middle Ages: founded in 1397. It all began in Neuhauser Gasse. The brewery then moved to Marsstraße – today the administrative headquarters. Like Löwenbräu and Franziskaner, the Spaten Brewery belongs to the international beer group AB InBev.

Spaten launched "Münchner Hell" in 1894, which quickly became a best-seller. The former brewery site now houses a visitor museum, and the beer is brewed in the former brewhouse of Löwenbräu AG.

Munich. Everyone waited for the magic words "O'zapft is! To a peaceful Oktoberfest!" Dieter Reiter announced the opening of the first Oktoberfest keg. Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder received the first liter of beer. Twelve cannon shots rang out across the Oktoberfest, and all of Munich knew it was time. Let's go to the Oktoberfest.

Unpracticed, Wimmer needed a full 17 strokes for the first Oktoberfest stein. Incidentally, Christian Ude once topped everything with two strokes for the first time. So, as the mayor said: "Hello, a peaceful Oktoberfest!"

Monaco. Tutti aspettavano le parole magiche "O'zapft is! A un Oktoberfest in pace!". Dieter Reiter ha annunciato l'apertura del primo barile dell'Oktoberfest. Il Primo Ministro bavarese Markus Söder ha ricevuto il primo litro di birra. Dodici colpi di cannone hanno risuonato sull'Oktoberfest e tutta Monaco ha capito che era giunto il momento. Andiamo all'Oktoberfest.

La spillatura della birra e la sua antica tradizione furono introdotte per la prima volta dal sindaco di Monaco, Thomas Wimmer, 75 anni fa.

Non essendo pratico, Wimmer impiegò ben 17 boccali per il primo boccale dell'Oktoberfest. A proposito, Christian Ude una volta superò il tutto con due boccali per la prima volta. Quindi, come disse il sindaco: "Buongiorno, un Oktoberfest sereno!"

Ora l'"oro" scorre nelle "casseforti" di vetro

Una birra di frumento meravigliosamente dorata e una lager fresca... Investire nella birra è sempre un investimento sicuro per le delizie culinarie...

Tutte e sei le birre possono essere degustate anche all'Oktoberfest di Monaco sul Theresienwiese, nelle locande e nelle birrerie all'aperto. Ad esempio, al Wirtshauswiesn!

La birra Hacker-Pschorr è stata documentata per la prima volta nel 1417.

 A quel tempo, il birrificio si trovava già in Sendlinger Straße, non lontano dal municipio (Vecchio Municipio, oggi Museo del Giocattolo). Oggi, l'osteria "Altes Hackerhaus" si trova ancora qui.

Dal XVIII secolo in poi, la coppia monacense Joseph Pschorr e Maria Theresia Hacker condusse la loro azienda ai vertici dei birrifici di Monaco. A causa di un'eredità, il birrificio Hacker e il birrificio Pschorr si divisero, dando vita a due marchi di birra. Dal 1972, il birrificio è tornato a produrre con il doppio nome "Hacker-Pschorr".

L'ex sede del birrificio si trovava a sud del ponte Hackerbrücke. Hacker-Pschorr fa ora parte del gruppo Paulaner. Le 13 birre di Hacker-Pschorr, alcune delle quali prodotte solo stagionalmente, sono imbottigliate esclusivamente in bottiglie con tappo meccanico.

La Löwenbräu fu fondata dietro la Frauenkirche nella Löwengrube (Fossa dei Leoni).

La sua prima produzione risale al Medioevo (fine del XIV secolo). Il nome "Löwenbräu" come marchio compare per la prima volta in documenti del 1746 (Catalogo dei birrifici di Monaco). Nel XIX secolo, sotto la guida della famiglia Brey, il birrificio divenne il più grande di Monaco. La birra da festa Löwenbräu nacque in seguito in Nymphenburger Straße, dove ancora oggi si trovano il Löwenbräukeller e la birreria all'aperto in Stiglmaierplatz. Tra l'altro, la famosa Starkbierfest (festa della birra forte) e la "Nacht der Tracht" (Notte dei costumi tradizionali) sono entrambi eventi molto popolari qui.

Dal 1997, il gruppo Spaten-Franziskaner-Löwenbräu opera congiuntamente sotto il gruppo birrario Interbrew, ora InBev.

La Hofbräu della rinomata Hofbräuhaus am Platzl di Monaco di Baviera

La canzone "A Monaco di Baviera c'è una Hofbräuhaus..." è famosa in tutto il mondo e promuove la birra dal cuore della città. La birra viene prodotta dal 1589, quando Guglielmo V fondò il suo birrificio ducale. Dal XIX secolo, il birrificio si trova in Innere Wiener Straße, dove la spettacolare e famosa Hofbräukeller con il suo favoloso giardino della birra attira i visitatori.

Nel 1939, la Hofbräu passò di proprietà dello Stato. Il birrificio Staatliches Hofbräuhaus di Monaco è probabilmente il marchio di birra più noto e fu originariamente fondato nell'Alter Hof (Vecchia Corte). Il famoso Hofbräuhaus am Platzl, non lontano dal Viktualienmarkt, è oggi una delle attrazioni turistiche più importanti della città. Il birrificio si trova ora appena fuori città, vicino al centro fieristico.

Il birrificio Paulaner con il monaco "Fra Barnaba"

Il birrificio Paulaner fu fondato dai monaci nel quartiere Au di Monaco. Nel 1634, i monaci dell'Ordine Paulaner produssero una birra passata alla storia come la Paulaner Festbier e ancora oggi servita all'Oktoberfest.

Ciò che inizialmente era apprezzato solo dai monaci, presto si diffuse tra gli intenditori di birra di Monaco come Bockbier, prodotta secondo l'antica ricetta di Fra Barnaba. La sede centrale del birrificio Paulaner si è trasferita qualche anno fa (2016) dal famoso Giesinger Nockherberg, noto per la festa della birra forte con i suoi famosi "Derblecken" (scherzi ai politici), a Monaco-Langwied.

Il birrificio si trova ancora oggi nell'Au, in Ohmüllerstraße, e sopra di esso si trova il Paulaner am Nockherberg, una popolare birreria all'aperto e sede dell'annuale festival della birra forte, con un discorso di apertura e un musical.

Il birrificio Paulaner è uno degli sponsor del Bayern Monaco.

 

 Den  Anstich und die lange Tradition führte einst der Münchner Oberbürgermeister Thomas Wimmer ein, das war vor 75 Jahren

 Ungeübt benötigte Wimmer ganze 17 Schläge für die erste Wiesn-Mass. Übrigens topte einst Christian Ude erstmals alles mit ebenfalls zwei Schlägen. Also, wie der Oberbürgermeister sagtes: "AUF EINE FRIEDLICHE WIESN!"

München hat sechs große Brauereien: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu, Hofbräu, Paulaner und Spaten

 

Alle sechs Biersorten kann man übrigens auch auf dem Münchner Oktoberfest auf der Theresienwiese, in den Gasthäusern und Biergärten genießen. Zum Beispiel bei der Wirtshauswiesn! 

 

Im Jahr 1417 wird das Bier des Hacker-Pschorr erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Die Brauerei befand sich damals schon in der Sendlinger Straße unweit des Rathauses (Altes Rathaus - heute Spielzeugmuseum). Heute ist hier immer noch die  Gaststätte „Altes Hackerhaus“ ansässig.

Vom 18. Jahrhundert an führte das Münchner Ehepaar Joseph Pschorr und Maria Theresia Hacker ihre FIRMA an die Spitze der Münchner Brauereien. Seit 1997 firmiert die Spaten-Franziskaner-Löwenbräu-Gruppe unter dem Braukonzern Interbrew, heute InBev, gemeinsam.

Das Lied "In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus …" ist weltbekannt und wirbt für das Bier aus dem Herzen der Stadt. Das Bier wird seit 1589 gebraut, als  Wilhelm V.  seine herzogliche Brauerei begründete. Bereits seit dem 19. Jahrhundert fand sich die Brauerei dann in der Inneren Wiener Straße, wo der spektakuläre, berühmte Hofbräukeller mit sagenhaftem Biergarten die Besucher anzieht. 


Im Jahr 1939 kam das Hofbräu in staatliche Hände. Die Brauerei Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München ist wohl die bekannteste Biermarke und wurde einst im Alten Hof gegründet. Das bekannte Hofbräuhaus am Platzl unweit des Viktualienmarkts zählt heute zu den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten. Gebraut wird mittlerweile etwas vor der Stadt in der Nähe des Messegeländes.

Die Paulaner Brauerei mit dem Mönch "Bruder Barnabas"

Die Paulaner Brauerei wurde von Mönchen im Münchner Stadtteil Au gegründet. Man schrieb das Jahr 1634 als die Mönche des Paulanerordens ein Bier brauten, das als Paulaner-Festbier in die Geschichte einging und bis heute auf dem Oktoberfest ausgeschenkt wird.



Was zunächst nur den Mönchen mundete, floss alsbald als Bockbier nach dem altem Rezept des Bruders Barnabas den Biergenießenden in München die Kehle hinunter. Der Hauptsitz der Paulaner-Brauerei zog vor einigen Jahren (2016) vom berühmten Giesinger Nockherberg, bekannt durch das Starkbierfest mit dem berühmten Politiker-Derblecken (Veralbern), nach München-Langwied. 

Der Sitz der Brauerei ist weiterhin in der Au in der Ohmüllerstraße und oberhalb befindet sich der Paulaner am Nockherberg, ein beliebter Biergarten und Festort des jährlich stattfindende Starkbierfest mit Festrede und Singspiel. 

 

Die Paulaner Brauerei zählt zu den Sponsoren des FC Bayern München.



 

Spatenbräu - Die Marke "Spaten" zapfte das erste „Münchner Hell“

Die berühmte Spatenbrauerei entstand ebenfalls im Mittelalter: 1397 gegründet. In der Neuhauser Gasse hatte alles begonnen. Dann ging die Brauerei in die Marsstraße - heute Sitz der Verwaltung - Die Spaten-Brauerei gehört wie auch Löwenbräu und Franziskaner zur internationalen Biergruppe AB InBev. 

Spaten brachte 1894 das „Münchner Hell“ heraus, das schnell zum Verkaufsschlager wurde. Auf dem ehemaligen Brauereigelände befindet sich heute ein Besuchermuseum und das Bier wird im ehemaligen Sudhaus der Löwenbräu AG gebraut.

Munich. Tout le monde attendait les mots magiques : « O'zapft is ! À une Oktoberfest paisible ! » Dieter Reiter a annoncé l'ouverture du premier fût de l'Oktoberfest. Le ministre-président bavarois Markus Söder a reçu le premier litre de bière. Douze coups de canon ont retenti dans toute la salle, et tout Munich savait que c'était l'heure. En route pour l'Oktoberfest !

 Le tirage de la bière et cette tradition ancestrale ont été introduits par le maire de Munich, Thomas Wimmer, il y a 75 ans

Manquant d'expérience, Wimmer a dû tirer 17 coups pour la première chope de l'Oktoberfest. D'ailleurs, Christian Ude a un jour réussi à tout compléter de deux coups pour la première fois. Alors, comme l'a dit le maire : « Bonjour, une Oktoberfest paisible ! »

L'or coule désormais dans les verres

Une bière blanche délicieusement dorée et une bière blonde fraîche… Investir dans la bière est toujours un investissement sûr pour les plaisirs culinaires…

Munich compte six grandes brasseries : 

• Augustiner, 
• Hacker-Pschorr, 
• Löwenbräu, 
• Hofbräu, 
• Paulaner 
• et Spaten

Ces six bières peuvent également être dégustées à l'Oktoberfest de Munich, sur la Theresienwiese, dans les auberges et les brasseries en plein air. Par exemple, au Wirtshauswiesn !

La bière Hacker-Pschorr est mentionnée pour la première fois en 1417. 

À cette époque, la brasserie était déjà située Sendlinger Straße, non loin de l'hôtel de ville (l'ancien hôtel de ville, aujourd'hui le musée du Jouet). Aujourd'hui, l'auberge « Altes Hackerhaus » s'y trouve toujours.

À partir du XVIIIe siècle, le couple munichois Joseph Pschorr et Maria Theresia Hacker propulsèrent leur entreprise au sommet des brasseries munichoises. Suite à un héritage, les brasseries Hacker et Pschorr se séparèrent, donnant naissance à deux marques de bière. Depuis 1972, la brasserie brasse à nouveau sous le double nom « Hacker-Pschorr ».

L'ancienne brasserie était située au sud du pont Hackerbrücke. Hacker-Pschorr fait désormais partie du groupe brassicole Paulaner. Les 13 bières Hacker-Pschorr, dont certaines sont brassées uniquement de façon saisonnière, sont exclusivement mises en bouteille dans des bouteilles à bouchon mécanique.

La brasserie Löwenbräu a été fondée derrière la Frauenkirche, dans la Löwengrube (la Fosse aux Lions).

Elle a été brassée pour la première fois au Moyen Âge (fin du XIVe siècle). Le nom de marque « Löwenbräu » apparaît pour la première fois dans des documents en 1746 (Catalogue de la brasserie munichoise). Au XIXe siècle, sous la direction de la famille Brey, la brasserie devint la plus grande brasserie de Munich. La bière festive Löwenbräu naquit plus tard dans la Nymphenburger Straße, où se trouvent encore aujourd'hui la Löwenbräukeller et le Biergarten sur la Stiglmaierplatz. La célèbre Starkbierfest (fête de la bière forte) et la « Nacht der Tracht » (Nuit des costumes traditionnels) sont d'ailleurs deux événements populaires de la ville.

Depuis 1997, le groupe Spaten-Franziskaner-Löwenbräu opère conjointement sous l'égide du groupe brassicole Interbrew, aujourd'hui InBev.

La Hofbräu de la célèbre Hofbräuhaus am Platzl de Munich

La chanson « À Munich se dresse une Hofbräuhaus… » est mondialement connue et met en avant la bière originaire du cœur de la ville. Brassée depuis 1589, année de la fondation de la brasserie ducale par Guillaume V, elle est située depuis le XIXe siècle sur l'Innere Wiener Straße, où la célèbre et spectaculaire Hofbräukeller et son magnifique biergarten attirent les visiteurs.

En 1939, la Hofbräu est devenue propriété de l'État. La Staatliches Hofbräuhaus de Munich est sans doute la marque de bière la plus connue et a été fondée à l'origine dans l'Alter Hof (l'Ancienne Cour). La célèbre Hofbräuhaus am Platzl, non loin du Viktualienmarkt, est aujourd'hui l'une des attractions touristiques les plus importantes de la ville. La brasserie est désormais située juste à l'extérieur de la ville, près du parc des expositions.

La Brasserie Paulaner a été fondée par des moines dans le quartier munichois d'Au. C'est en 1634 que les moines de l'Ordre de Paulaner brassèrent une bière entrée dans l'histoire sous le nom de Paulaner Festbier, encore servie aujourd'hui à l'Oktoberfest.

Ce qui était initialement réservé aux moines s'est rapidement répandu dans les gorges des amateurs de bière munichois sous le nom de Bockbier, élaborée selon l'ancienne recette de Frère Barnabé. Le siège de la Brasserie Paulaner a déménagé il y a quelques années (2016) du célèbre Giesinger Nockherberg, connu pour sa fête de la bière forte et ses fameux « Derblecken » (se moquer des politiciens), à Munich-Langwied.

La brasserie est toujours située à Au, dans la Ohmüllerstraße. Au-dessus se trouve le Paulaner am Nockherberg, un bar à bières populaire qui accueille chaque année le festival de la bière forte, avec discours et comédie musicale.

La brasserie Paulaner est l'un des sponsors du FC Bayern Munich.

 

Spatenbräu - La marque « Spaten » a créé la première « Münchner Hell »

La célèbre brasserie Spaten trouve également ses origines au Moyen Âge : fondée en 1397, elle a débuté dans la Neuhauser Gasse. La brasserie a ensuite déménagé dans la Marsstraße, aujourd'hui siège administratif. Tout comme Löwenbräu et Franziskaner, la brasserie Spaten appartient au groupe brassicole international AB InBev.

München. Alles wartete auf die magischen Worte "O'zapft is! Auf eine friedliche Wiesn!" Dieter Reiter verkündete das Öffnen des ersten Wiesn-Fasses.  Die erste Maß bekam bayerische Ministerpräsident Markus Söder. Es erklangen 12 Böllerschüsse über die Wiesn und ganz München wusste es ist soweit. Auf gehts zur Wiesn.

In the heart of the city, a beer garden changes its beer style every five to six weeks: in the beer garden at the Viktualienmarkt, visitors can enjoy a different Munich beer every few weeks in the bar or in the beer garden. Incidentally, all six beers can also be enjoyed at the Munich Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese, in the inns and beer gardens of the respective breweries, or in the breweries' traditional tents at the famous folk festivals. - Next big festival: From April 25th to May 11th, the Spring Festival (Frühlingsfest in München) will be held in Munich again. - Incidentally, in 2025, International Beer Day falls on August 1st!  Augustiner-Bräu, gladden your heart! - The Augustiner Brewery is Munich's oldest brewery

The brewery was founded in 1328, making it the oldest brewery still in existence in Munich. The Augustiner-Bräu always refrained from advertising and always used a bulbous bottle, while other breweries used the narrow NRW bottle for bottling. The Augustiner Brewery is located south of the railway tracks on Landsberger Straße at the Hackerbrücke. Anyone passing by will recognize the long brick wall.

But back to history: The monks of the Augustinian Order produced the first beer to enjoy popularity throughout Bavaria as early as 1328. The "Augustiner" was privatized in 1817. The Augustiner Hell still bears the bulbous Augustinian monk as a label.

The Hacker-Pschorr Brewery was founded in 1417, in the late Middle Ages.

Hacker-Pschorr beer was first documented in 1417. At that time, the brewery was already located on Sendlinger Straße, not far from the town hall (Old Town Hall - now the Toy Museum). Today, the "Altes Hackerhaus" restaurant is still located here.

From the 18th century onward, the Munich couple Joseph Pschorr and Maria Theresia Hacker led their company to the top of Munich's breweries. Through inheritance, the Hacker Brewery and Pschorr Brewery split, resulting in two beer brands. Since 1972, the brewery has been brewed again under the dual name "Hacker-Pschorr."

The former brewery site was located south of the Hacker Bridge. Hacker-Pschorr is now part of the Paulaner Beer Group. Hacker-Pschorr's 13 beers, some of which are brewed seasonally, are bottled exclusively in swing-top bottles.

Löwenbräu was founded behind the Frauenkirche in the Löwengrube (Lion's Den).

It was first brewed in the Middle Ages (late 14th century). The title "Löwenbräu" as a brand first appears in documents in 1746 (Munich Beer Brewery Catalogue). In the 19th century, the brewery, run by the Brey family, became the largest brewery in Munich. The Löwenbräu festival beer later originated on Nymphenburger Straße, where we can still find the Löwenbräukeller with its beer garden at Stiglmaierplatz. Incidentally, the famous Starkbierfest (strong beer festival) and the "Nacht der Tracht" (Night of Traditional Costume) are both popular events here.

Since 1997, the Spaten-Franziskaner-Löwenbräu Group has operated jointly under the Interbrew brewing group, now InBev.

The Hofbräu from the internationally renowned Hofbräuhaus am Platzl in Munich

The song "In Munich stands a Hofbräuhaus..." ( "In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus …") is world-famous and promotes the beer from the heart of the city. The beer has been brewed since 1589, when William V founded his ducal brewery. Since the 19th century, the brewery has been located on Innere Wiener Straße, where the spectacular, famous Hofbräukeller with its fabulous beer garden attracts visitors.

In 1939, Hofbräu passed into state ownership. The Staatliches Hofbräuhaus brewery in Munich is arguably the most well-known beer brand and was originally founded in the Alter Hof (Old Court). The famous Hofbräuhaus on Platzl, not far from the Viktualienmarkt, is now one of the city's most important tourist attractions. The brewery now operates just outside the city, near the exhibition center.

The Paulaner Brewery with the monk "Brother Barnabas"

The Paulaner Brewery was founded by monks in the Munich district of Au. It was in 1634 that the monks of the Paulaner Order brewed a beer that went down in history as the Paulaner Festbier and is still served at Oktoberfest today.

What was initially enjoyed only by monks soon flowed down the throats of Munich's beer lovers as Bock beer, made according to Brother Barnabas's old recipe. The Paulaner Brewery headquarters moved a few years ago (2016) from the famous Giesinger Nockherberg, known for the Starkbierfest (strong beer festival) with its famous "Derblecken" (poking fun at politicians), to Munich-Langwied.

The brewery's headquarters remain in the Au on Ohmüllerstraße, and above it is the Paulaner am Nockherberg, a popular beer garden and festival venue for the annual Starkbierfest (strong beer festival), with its keynote speech and musical comedy. The Paulaner Brewery is one of the sponsors of FC Bayern Munich.

Spatenbräu - The "Spaten" brand tapped the first "Münchner Hell"

The famous Spaten Brewery also originated in the Middle Ages: founded in 1397. It all began in Neuhauser Gasse. The brewery then moved to Marsstraße – today the administrative headquarters. Like Löwenbräu and Franziskaner, the Spaten Brewery belongs to the international beer group AB InBev.

Spaten launched "Münchner Hell" in 1894, which quickly became a best-seller. The former brewery site now houses a visitor museum, and the beer is brewed in the former brewhouse of Löwenbräu AG.
