189th Munich Oktoberfest - in numbers: 6.7 million people visited the Oktoberfest 2024 and a total of 7 million pints of beer were drunk... The Oktoberfest guards were able to take 98,000 pints from the souvenir hunters...

October 6, 2024: Last Oktoberfest Sunday in Munich - the Labor and Economy Department of the state capital Munich draws a preliminary balance

Munich.
It was full at the Oktoberfest when the gunners fired their salute at 12 p.m. today. Today the 16 days of Oktoberfest in Munich come to an end and the results look as expected: a total of around 6.7 million visitors were there - including around 430,000 guests at the Oiden Wiesn - the favorite drink was barley juice, a whopping seven million Drank a glass of beer. Among the delicacies, the baked Wiesnhendl was an absolute hit. As the Labor and Economy Department of the state capital Munich announced today, the Mittagswiesn was also “strongly attended” on all days. And at the sales stands, “Glazed fruits, chocolate hearts with figurines, such as the Munich child or the angel Aloisius, ... were in great demand.” And the classic roasted almonds and stomach bread also did well – as did cotton candy and bratwursts. Although you can buy beer mugs from souvenir dealers and online, the security service had to save a total of 98,000 beer mugs from souvenir hunters and collect them from the festival grounds.

From which countries did the Oktoberfest visitors come to Munich?

A good question every year! Most of the international guests came from the USA, of course our friends from Italy came in large numbers, followed by visitors from the UK, Austria, Poland, France, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, from down under from Australia and for the first time many visitors also came from India.

Our guests from overseas stuck to Bavarian Oktoberfest clothing and loved to celebrate in lederhosen and dirndls - as this Bavarian music band demonstrates.

Overall, the festival management, the showmen, stand operators and innkeepers were very satisfied with the quiet and peaceful Oktoberfest.

Munich - last Oktoberfest weekend 2024

Munich: let's go into the last weekend of the Oktoberfest

On the last Sunday of the Oktoberfest - October 6th - the firecrackers of the Bavarian Sport Shooters will shoot the big salute in front of the shooting tent at the foot of the Bavaria, thus ending the Munich Oktoberfest 2024

It's all over with the singing of the Bavarian anthem (see text below!) - you can then celebrate until 11.30 p.m.!

 Munich.
On today's bridge day you can ring in the last Oktoberfest weekend. Let's go! Let's go to the Oktoberfest to celebrate! Before on Sunday, October 6th from 12 p.m., the gunners shoot on the steps in front of the Bavaria, traditionally announcing the last hours of the Munich Oktoberfest. From 11:30 p.m. it's official: it's over - it's over! The Oktoberfest hosts will be packing up starting tomorrow. And us? We are already planning for the Oktoberfest in 2025. Let's look forward to the first Oktoberfest Saturday, when on September 20, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. the motto will be: o'zapft is! That means: We can hardly wait... ;-)) :-)) ... because then we can go around the Ferris wheel again until Sunday, October 5th, 2025. But it's not over yet. Two more days until the largest folk festival in the world says goodbye to its guests in Munich. So let's go: the final sprint of the celebration! Only when, on the last Sunday of the Oktoberfest, the cannon shooters of the Bavarian Sport Shooters fire the big salute in front of the shooting tent at the foot of the Bavaria, thus honoring the winner of the "Oktoberfest State Shooting", then it's over! ...then the Oktoberfest 2024 ends on Munich's Theresienwiese. - - - -

The shooting festival tent with the shooting ranges

According to the old Bavarian tradition, the salute is fired in front of the shooting festival tent by female and male gunners. By the way, the state shooting competition was held during the Oktoberfest at the shooting ranges in the Schützenzelt - just like that. This is where the shooting ranges where the shooting competitions take place are located. This is the highlight of the year, the “Oktoberfest State Shooting”. This is organized by the “Bavarian Sports Shooting Association”.

The firecracker shooting is the traditional award ceremony... and this is where the annual Oktoberfest conclusion has developed from.

This year again, around 60 male and female firecrackers in their club costumes will stand in formation on the steps in front of the Bavaria at 12 p.m. sharp and loudly shoot black powder into the air until white smoke rises.

A brass band will play and end the 2024 Oktoberfest with the Bavarian anthem.

PLEASE arrive IN TIME if you want to be in the front seats

Maybe you should practice again if you want to sing along loudly with our Bavarian anthem on Sunday at the spectacular conclusion of the Oktoberfest.

But: the whole country can watch the Oktoberfest on TV on Sunday, because Bavarian television and Munich TV will broadcast the end of the Oktoberfest at the feet of Bavaria.

Gott mit dir, du Land der Bayern,

deutsche Erde, Vaterland!

Über deinen weiten Gauen

ruhe Seine Segenshand!

schirme deiner Städte Bau

Und erhalte dir die Farben

Seines Himmels, weiß und blau! :|

2nd verse:

Gott mit dir, dem Bayernvolke,

dass wir, uns’rer Väter wert,

fest in Eintracht und in Frieden

bauen uns’res Glückes Herd!

The Oktoberfest countdown in Munich is underway: Exactly 82 days before the start, the construction of the most famous folk festival in the world begins

The 189th Oktoberfest will take place this year from September 21st to October 6th, 2024 on Munich's Theresienwiese

Munich.
Anyone who has wondered in the last few days why the long construction fence on the Theresienwiese in Munich is still there now has the answer: The construction of the Munich Oktoberfest 2024 starts today on July 1st! There will be some traffic changes around the Oktoberfest - also due to the construction of the new railway bridge on Poccistrasse. Because: in exactly 82 days, if we do the math, the first keg of beer will be tapped by Mayor Dieter Reiter. He will present the first pint of Munich Oktoberfest beer to the country's father, Prime Minister Markus Söder - according to custom. Then the celebration will take place on Munich's Theresienwiese from September 21st to October 6th, 2024 and Munich with its large breweries such as Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner and Spaten is looking forward to the guests and Oktoberfest fans from all over the world. Every year it is a logistical masterpiece to set up the largest folk festival in the world in the Bavarian capital. We will follow the construction in this blog and publish new impressions here and there!
