The knights are back in town before Christmas! The Middle Ages are taking over Munich! Starting November 24th, the Munich Advent Spectacular will be enticing visitors with its medieval Christmas market on Wittelsbacherplatz

The Munich Advent Spectacular will be set up and will open on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 6 p.m. (stalls open from 11 a.m.) until December 23, 2025 - Wittelsbacherplatz - daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.  (Deutsch, Italiano, English, Français)

Munich. It's a very special Christmas market that takes us on a journey back in time to over 500 years ago. The knights and their ladies will be back on Wittelsbacherplatz in Munich starting November 24, 2025. They will be offering fine wares for sale. In the heart of the city: at the medieval Christmas market. Maximilian I greets visitors from afar from his equestrian statue on Wittelsbacherplatz. During the Christmas season, numerous medieval-style stalls surround his platform. Lights radiate warmth, and the aroma of roasted and boiled food wafts towards visitors to this Munich Advent spectacle. Dressed in medieval garb, minstrels, troubadours, and merchants transport visitors to Munich over 600 years ago. Knights and noblewomen stroll through the medieval Christmas market at the foot of the equestrian statue of Elector Maximilian I (1573-1651). The period from 600 AD to 1500 AD is generally considered the Middle Ages. This Munich Advent spectacle takes place at the medieval Christmas market on Wittelsbacherplatz, Brienner Straße 6-10 (daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM). The market is easily accessible from the Odeonsplatz U-Bahn station.

The Christmas market on Wittelsbacherplatz in Munich brings this medieval era back to life.

It was the time of minstrels, jugglers, musicians, and chamber music. All of these served as entertainment.

The pre-Christmas season, with its tarte flambée, popular venison roast, hot soups, grilled sausages, mead, and hot drinks like mulled wine and truly fiery Feuerzangenbowle (a type of mulled wine), draws visitors to Munich every year for a journey back to the Middle Ages.

On weekends, the Munich City Guard even marches here as a living reenactment based on original models from Munich museums:

At one stall, visitors will even find a display case with eight wax casts of historical seals dating from the 11th to the 15th centuries. They are originals and on loan from the Munich City Archives — Calligraphy Stall.

For school groups: experiential tours on the topic of "Munich in the Middle Ages."

Considering its historical context, Munich has always been a global trading city with beautiful marketplaces along the Isar River. Students can relive Munich's medieval past here during the market days.

Munich. You have to see this - Germany in the Middle Ages live!!! Maximilian I greets visitors to the medieval Advent spectacle from his equestrian statue: until December 23rd (daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.) his pedestal is surrounded by numerous medieval stalls, traveling folk, knights and craftsmen. Warmth and the smell of fried food flow towards visitors to the Munich Advent spectacle at Wittelsbacher Platz. The historic Munich City Guard from around 1490 is located directly at the entrance to the Advent market. The live depiction of a Munich city guard was based on drawings and descriptions from the time. The current costume design and the equipment are based on museum templates. For example, the guards wear the Munich Tartsche (hand shield) from 1463, the original of which can be found in the Munich City Museum (incidentally, the oldest and completely preserved museum piece in Munich).

Maximilian I (1573-1651) from the House of Wittelsbach was the Duke of Bavaria from 1597 and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire from 1623. - His burial place in the Wittelsbach crypt in St. Michael in Munich (Neuhauser Str. 6 - pedestrian zone) can be visited. -

For your physical well-being, there are tree striezel baked over charcoal embers, organic flame bread, fair meat, grilled suckling pig, organic cheese patties, ox braised in the wood oven, Irish salmon smoked over a beech wood fire and the popular barbarian skewer with organic stick bread as well as hot soups and fine drinks Knights of the Round Table... and always something sweet. Our medieval market square, located not far from Odeonsplatz on Briennerstrasse, beckons with all sorts of beautiful things that you can happily give to others and yourself

In addition to "Filzerey, felt goods" at the camel market, there is also the so-called "Zeidlery" with honey and beeswax candles or at Kai Aumeier even armor and knight's supplies. The master craftsman, Ulrich Steinhauser, offers historical glass for sale and there is the gemstone dream from Andreas Michel. Gemstones, minerals, rings, silversmith's work such as fine rings and jewelry bring Undine Stella and Undine Schroth to life. 

Undine would be a nice girl's name for 2025!

There are wooden boxes, watch and jewelry boxes, all hand-carved by Thuya-Design by Maxime Winklmeier and hand-crafted pottery, hand-painted by Jūratė Skuodienė.Yes, the Middle Ages are being revived here. Birgit Fichtl brings warm woolen blankets, jackets and rare medieval botanicals onto the market. and glass beads and beaded jewelry, everything that has always been modern throughout the times, is brought by "Kugelrund, the crazy bead maker" Monika Simon.

There is also a children's armory by Bernhard Schmitt... And the goldsmith offers precious, exquisite jewelry, handmade by Sir Maurice, Sascha M. Panizza.

The Middle Ages became increasingly cleaner with organic soaps. Dietrich Zarah's spagyric soap factory brings fragrant gifts.

 

But there are also culinary and distilled products
