Berlin. En juin 2024, la Fondation Helmut Newton a célébré son 20e anniversaire dans une exposition collective intitulée « Berlin, Berlin ». L'exposition rend hommage à la ville natale d'Helmut Newton. En 2003, le célèbre photographe Helmut Newton (1920 - 2004) a fait don d'une partie importante de ses archives photographiques - en guise de legs, pour ainsi dire - à la ville de Berlin. Il a auparavant fondé une fondation qui porte son nom. En juin 2004, la Fondation Helmut Newton a ouvert ses portes dans l'ancien casino Landwehr de la gare du Jardin zoologique de Berlin. En collaboration avec la bibliothèque d'art, la Fondation Helmut Newton organise des expositions dans ce lieu historique sous le nom de « Musée de la photographie ». Depuis sa création, la Fondation Helmut Newton, en collaboration avec la bibliothèque d'art, utilise cette maison historique sous le nom de "Musée de la Photographie"

Après le décès de June, l'épouse de Newton, les œuvres complètes des deux photographes et tous les documents d'archives existants ont été conservés en permanence dans les archives de la fondation, qui gère également les droits à l'image des deux artistes. La photographe australienne June Newton (1923 à Melbourne - 2021 Monte-Carlo) a choisi le pseudonyme d'Alice Springs pour sa carrière photographique.

La gare du Jardin Zoologique est la dernière chose que Helmut Newton, 18 ans, a vu de Berlin en décembre 1938, lorsqu'il s'est enfui et est parti pour Singapour. Après 65 ans, le célèbre photographe mondialement vénéré, qui a créé des œuvres photographiques uniques, est revenu à Berlin pour la première fois. Le jeune homme avait auparavant effectué sa formation de photographe à Berlin-Charlottenbourg de 1936 à 1938. La légendaire photographe Else Ernestine Neuländer-Simon, dite Yva (1900-1944), le forme dans son atelier aux genres du portrait, de la mode et du nu, ce qui façonnera le parcours photographique de Newton.

Fondation Helmut Newton

La Fondation Helmut Newton à Berlin se consacre au traitement et à la présentation du travail photographique d'Helmut et June Newton - qui ont également laissé derrière eux une œuvre importante dans l'histoire de la photographie sous le pseudonyme d'Alice Springs.

Sonderausstellung zum Werk Helmut Newtons bis 16. Februar 2025 in Berlin

Berlin. In einer Gruppenausstellung mit dem Titel "Berlin, Berlin" feierte die Helmut Newton Stiftung seit Juni 2024 immerhin schon ihr 20jähriges Bestehen. Die Ausstellung zeigt eine Hommage an Helmut Newtons Geburtsstadt. Im Jahr 2003 gab der berühmte Fotograf Helmut Newton (1920 - 2004) wichtige Teile seines Fotografen-Archivs - quasi als Vorlass - an die Stadt Berlin. Zuvor gründete er eine  Stiftung, die seinen Namen trägt. Im Juni 2004 eröffnete die Helmut Newton Foundation in dem einstigen  Landwehrkasino am Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten in Berlin. Zusammen mit der der Kunstbibliothek kuratiert die Helmut Newton Stiftung unter dem Namen  „Museum für Fotografie“ an diesem historischen Ort Ausstellungen. Als im Jahr 2021 June Newton (alias Alice Springs) verstarb ging dann der gesamte Nachlass, quasi das Gesamtwerk des Paares Helmut Newton und Alice Springs mitsamt aller  Archivalien an das Stiftungsarchiv, dass bei Ausstellungen nun aus dem vollen Schöpfen kann.

Die Helmut Newton Stiftung bespielt seit ihrer Gründung zusammen mit der Kunstbibliothek dieses historische Haus unter dem Namen "Museum für Fotografie"

Nach dem Tod von Newtons Ehefrau June wurden die Gesamtwerke der beiden Fotografen und alle vorhandenen Archivalien dauerhaft im Stiftungsarchiv untergebracht – die auch die Bildrechte beider Künstler verwaltet. Die australische Fotografin June Newton (1923 in Melbourne - 2021 Monte-Carlo) hatte für ihre fotografische Karriere das Pseudonym Alice Springs gewählt.

Flucht aus Berlin und Rückkehr nach 65 Jahren

Der Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten war das letzte was der 18-jährige Helmut Newton einst im Dezember 1938 von Berlin sah, als er flüchtete und in in Richtung Singapur startete. Nach 65 Jahren kehrte der berühmte und weltweit verehrte Fotograf, der einmalige Werke der Fotografie geschaffen hatte erstmals nach Berlin zurück. In Berlin-Charlottenburg hatte der junge Mann zuvor von 1936 bis 1938 seine Fotografenausbildung absolviert. Die legendäre Fotografin Else Ernestine Neuländer-Simon, genannt Yva (1900-1944) hatte ihn in ihrem Atelier in den Genres Porträt, Mode und Akt ausgebildet, was Newtons fotografischen Weg prägen sollte.

Die Helmut Newton Stiftung in Berlin widmet sich der Aufarbeitung und Präsentation des fotografischen Werkes von Helmut und June Newton – die unter dem Pseudonym Alice Springs ebenfalls ein bedeutendes Werk der Fotogeschichte hinterlassen hat.

Die Helmut Newton Stiftung ist Teil der Berliner Kulturszene und arbeitet zum Beispiel mit anderen Berliner Kunsthäusern zusammen, wie in Kooperation mit C/O Berlin und der Sammlung Fotografie der Kunstbibliothek. Since its founding, the Helmut Newton Foundation, together with the art library, has used this historic house under the name "Museum for Photography"


After the death of Newton's wife June, the complete works of the two photographers and all existing archival materials were permanently housed in the foundation's archive - which also manages the image rights of both artists. Escape from Berlin and return after 65 years

 

 The Zoological Garden train station was the last thing 18-year-old Helmut Newton saw of Berlin in December 1938 when he fled and set off for Singapore. After 65 years, the famous and globally revered photographer, who created unique works of photography, returned to Berlin for the first time. The young man had previously completed his photography training in Berlin-Charlottenburg from 1936 to 1938.
