Day of open air museums in Bavaria: June 2, 2024

The open-air museums announce numerous participation offers and guided tours on their websites (GERMAN)

Bavaria. In the Bavarian open-air museums, museum villages, farm museums and archaeological parks we find farmhouses, workshops and sometimes even just traces of ancient settlements, which were fortunately preserved in rural areas or which had to be partially rediscovered or rediscovered. In the open air, which can be interesting at any time of the year, the museum visitor goes back in time, wanders through the farmhouses, the workshops and sees many artifacts that need to be preserved.  On June 2nd, the official “Open-Air Museum Day” will be celebrated in Bavaria for the first time. There are eight museums in the Free State that have joined forces to form the “Open-Air Museums in Bavaria” network. There will be special exhibitions here and there and a diverse participation program on the topic of sustainability. Back then, people didn't always throw things away straight away; no, they repaired, reworked or found a new use.

The “open-air museums in Bavaria” will certainly be popular on June 2, 2024, especially since this visit is well suited for the end of the holiday!

Whether it is the sheep as a source of wool or materials, a demonstration of crafts from the loom to the forge, the care of the costume, traditional music, animal husbandry and the production of food, the work in nature from the museum beekeeper to the shepherd and threshing of the grain - previously by hand. The grain mill is powered by water power and the grain first becomes flour and then bread. What does a meadow orchard look like and what makes an Upper Bavarian alpine pasture.

Here and there there is music, dancing, hands-on activities, workshops, demonstrations, delicious food and interesting tours for all ages.

In Glentleiten, for example, there are sound and meadow worlds

Anyone who grows up in the city knows what a car smells like and knows all the noises of the city. What about wind and water, animal noises and can plants talk? Every landscape has a sound. The exhibition in Glentleiten is a reminder of the wealth and beauty of biodiversity.

  •     The exhibition “Requiem for Disappeared Species” - Duration: until June 30, 2024 - Location: Zollingerhalle of the open-air museum (T11)
