May 17 – Oct. 18: Exhibition at Herrenchiemsee Palace
Herrenchiemsee. The time has finally come in mid-May: masterpieces from the Pinakothek der Moderne will be presented in a special exhibition held within the unique, unfinished interior spaces of Herrenchiemsee Palace. This exhibition marks a new iteration of the show "Can You Still? – Art and Democracy." In this presentation, curators Verena Hein, Anja Heitzer, and Oliver Kase respond to the positive reception received in 2025, placing the fundamental values of our democracy at the very center of the exhibition. Works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann, Rosemarie Trockel, Joseph Beuys, Maria Lassnig, Gerhard Richter, and Andy Warhol span a stylistic arc from Classical Modernism to the present day, entering into a striking dialogue with the palace's extraordinary architecture. Herrenchiemsee Palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site last year.
The exhibition spans ten chapters and addresses themes such as the values of our constitution, creative self-expression, and the possibilities of social participation. Furthermore, the exhibition references the Constitutional Convention that laid the groundwork for the German constitution at Herrenchiemsee in 1948.
Paloma Varga Weisz is one of today’s leading sculptors; in her poetic works, she combines existential inquiries with a sensitive approach to materiality. The sculptures—created specifically for this site—enter into a fascinating dialogue with the historic architecture.
Max Beckmann, Joseph Beuys, Lisa Brice, Deichkind, Günther Förg, Sheila Hicks, K. H. Hödicke, Jörg Immendorff, Asger Jorn, Anselm Kiefer, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Maria Lassnig, Henri Laurens, Inge Mahn, Henry Moore, A. R. Penck, Pablo Picasso, Sigmar Polke, Judit Reigl, Gerhard Richter, Rosemarie Trockel, Paloma Varga Weisz, Andy Warhol, and others (this is merely a selection).

- The exhibition’s title, *Könnt ihr noch?* ("Can You Still?"), quotes the tech-rap group Deichkind.
- It challenges us to uphold democratic values, even in times of mounting social tension.
In the impressive stairwell of the historic palace, a new presentation by the artist Paloma Varga Weisz is on display.
