Salzburg. It all starts tomorrow! The first Legends Grand Prix at the Salzburgring will be held from October 3rd to 5th, 2025, and 150 historic vehicles from the 1920s to the early 1990s are expected. They will delight classic car enthusiasts on the track and in special exhibitions. The organizer emphasized in advance: "The response to the announcement of the Legends Grand Prix proves that this type of event has been missing in Europe," explained "mastermind" Achim Althammer. In addition to the historic racing and sports cars from eight decades, some of which are unique, the family-friendly offering will delight participants and visitors. The following highlights from racing and classic car history are expected:

• Porsche 356 B Carrera GS/GT "Dreikantschaber" (1963),
• a 908/02 Spyder from the late 1960s/early 1970s,
• the 1987 Le Mans-winning Porsche 962 C "Rothmans" –
• and, looking ahead, a 997 GT3 R Hybrid concept car.

Austrian racing driver Klaus Bachler has been announced as the prominent "chauffeur." Porsche will present, among other things, a 1962 Type 804 Formula 1 as a static contribution to the exhibition.

A rarely seen "tidbit" comes from Opel's racing history:

The legendary "Jumbo," the Steinmetz Commodore from the 1970s, was considered a true "monster"—no wonder, given its six-liter eight-cylinder Chevrolet engine (from the then Opel Diplomat) producing over 500 hp and weighing just under 1020 kilograms. The Opel earned its nickname "Jumbo," inspired by the Boeing 747, because of its "snowplow" front end, striking fenders, and rear wing. Rüsselsheim-based tuner Klaus Steinmetz gave the "Jumbo" a top speed of over 300 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The car was driven by Peter Hoffmann in the Superstock class of the Interseries in 1974. However, this class was discontinued in 1975. Oliver Steinmetz maintains the company's history, has resurrected the "Jumbo" with the help of the mechanics of that time, and is showing it running for the first time at the Legends Grand Prix at the Salzburgring.

Special Topic: Niki Lauda's First World Championship Title 50 Years Ago

As this year marks the 50th anniversary of Niki Lauda's first Formula 1 championship, a Lauda bust will be unveiled in Niki's hometown of the 1970s and 1980s in cooperation with the municipality of Hof prior to the Legends Grand Prix.

At the Legends Grand Prix, various original cars of the three-time world champion, who passed away in 2019, will be presented to the public.

The highlight will be the 1975 Ferrari 312 T.

Delizieranno gli appassionati di auto d'epoca in pista e in mostre speciali. L'organizzatore ha sottolineato in anticipo: "La risposta all'annuncio del Legends Grand Prix dimostra che questo tipo di evento mancava in Europa", ha spiegato la "mente" Achim Althammer. Un "cimelio" raramente visto proviene dalla storia delle corse di Opel:

Argomento speciale: Il primo titolo mondiale di Niki Lauda 50 anni fa

Le premier Grand Prix des Légendes du Salzburgring se tiendra du 3 au 5 octobre 2025. 150 véhicules historiques des années 1920 au début des années 1990 sont attendus. Ils raviront les amateurs de voitures de collection sur la piste et lors d'expositions spéciales. L'organisateur a souligné en amont : « L'accueil réservé à l'annonce du Grand Prix des Légendes prouve que ce type d'événement manquait en Europe », a expliqué Achim Althammer, le « créateur ». Outre les voitures de course et de sport historiques de huit décennies, dont certaines sont uniques, l'offre familiale ravira les participants et les visiteurs. Voici les temps forts de l'histoire des courses automobiles et des voitures de collection :

Un petit détail rare de l'histoire de la compétition automobile d'Opel :

La légendaire « Jumbo », la Commodore Steinmetz des années 1970, était considérée comme un véritable « monstre », ce qui n'était pas étonnant compte tenu de son moteur Chevrolet huit cylindres de six litres (de l'Opel Diplomat de l'époque) développant plus de 500 ch et pesant un peu moins de 1 020 kilogrammes. L'Opel a gagné son surnom de « Jumbo », inspiré du Boeing 747, en raison de sa partie avant en « chasse-neige », de ses ailes imposantes et de son aileron arrière. Le préparateur Klaus Steinmetz, basé à Rüsselsheim, a doté la « Jumbo » d'une vitesse de pointe de plus de 300 km/h, accélérant de 0 à 100 km/h en 4,3 secondes. La voiture a été pilotée par Peter Hoffmann dans la catégorie Superstock de l'Interseries en 1974. Cependant, cette catégorie a été abandonnée en 1975. Oliver Steinmetz perpétue l'histoire de l'entreprise, a ressuscité la « Jumbo » avec l'aide des mécaniciens de l'époque et la montre en train de rouler pour la première fois au Legends Grand Prix du Salzburgring.

Sujet spécial : Le premier titre de champion du monde de Niki Lauda il y a 50 ans

Cette année marque le 50e anniversaire du premier titre de champion du monde de Formule 1 de Niki Lauda. Un buste de Lauda sera inauguré dans la ville natale de Niki dans les années 1970 et 1980, en collaboration avec la municipalité de Hof, avant le Grand Prix des Légendes.

Lors du Grand Prix des Légendes, plusieurs voitures originales du triple champion du monde, décédé en 2019, seront présentées au public.

La pièce maîtresse sera la Ferrari 312 T de 1975.

Salzburg. Morgen geht's los! Der erste Legends Grand Prix auf dem Salzburgring wird vom 3. bis 5. Oktober 2025 veranstaltet und man erwartet 150 historische Fahrzeuge der 1920er- bis Anfang 1990er-Jahre. Sie werden auf der Piste und im Rahmen von Sonderausstellungen die Oldtimerliebhaber erfreuen.  Schon im Vorfeld betonte der Veranstalter „Das Echo auf die Ankündigung des Legends Grand Prix beweist, dass diese Art Veranstaltung bisher in Europa gefehlt hat“, erklärte „Mastermind“ Achim Althammer. Erwartet werden folgende Highlights der Renn- und  Oldtimergeschichte

•  sowie, als Blick voraus, einen 997 GT3 R Hybrid als Konzeptfahrzeug

Als prominenter „Chauffeur“ ist vorab der österreichische Rennfahrer Klaus Bachler genannt. Statisch wird Porsche als Beitrag zur Ausstellung u. a. einen Typ 804 Formel 1 von 1962 präsentieren.

Ein selten zu sehender „Leckerbissen“ kommt aus der Rennhistorie von Opel: 

Der legendäre „Jumbo“, der Steinmetz-Commodore aus den 1970er-Jahren, der als wahres „Monster“ galt – kein Wunder bei einem Sechsliter-Achtzylinder von Chevrolet (aus dem damaligen Opel Diplomat) mit über 500 PS bei knapp 1020 Kilogramm Gewicht. Den an die Boeing 747 angelehnten Spitznamen „Jumbo“ erhielt der Opel wegen der „Schneepflug“-Front, den auffälligen Kotflügeln und dem Heckflügel. Der Rüsselsheimer Tuner Klaus Steinmetz verpasste dem „Jumbo“ über 300 km/h Höchstgeschwindigkeit bei einer Beschleunigung aus dem Stand auf 100 km/h in 4,3 Sekunden. Der Wagen wurde 1974 in der Superstock-Klasse der Interserie von Peter Hoffmann gefahren. Allerdings wurde diese Klasse schon 1975 nicht mehr ausgeschrieben. Oliver Steinmetz pflegt die Firmenhistorie, hat den „Jumbo“ mit Hilfe der damaligen Mechaniker wieder auferstehen lassen und zeigt ihn erstmals fahrend beim Legends Grand Prix am Salzburgring.

Sonderthema: Niki Laudas erster WM-Titel vor 50 Jahren

Da sich heuer das erste Formel-1-Championat von Niki Lauda zum 50. Mal jährt, gibt es im Vorfeld des Legends Grand Prix in Zusammenwirken mit der Gemeinde Hof die Enthüllung einer Lauda-Büste in Nikis Heimat der 1970er und 1980er-Jahre. 

Beim Legends Grand Prix werden dem Publikum verschiedene Originalautos des 2019 verstorbenen dreifachen Weltmeisters präsentiert. 

Highlight wird der Ferrari 312 T von 1975 sein.
