Baden-Baden. On Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 7 p.m., the Museum Frieder Burda and the Baden-Baden Theater invite you to a literary and theatrical evening amidst the exhibition. The paintings from the German Impressionist period allow you to relive the light-filled spirit of an entire era. A special highlight in January at the museum is the reading "Times change, but people always remain the same scoundrels." This reading focuses on Max Liebermann's letters as testimonies to a life lived between art, personal reflection, and social change. Liebermann is revealed not only as an artist, but also as a perceptive observer of his time: his written works oscillate between cosmopolitanism and growing exclusion, between bourgeois culture and political oppression. Readings by Sebastian Mirow and Christina Thiessen... dramaturgical design by Peter Krauch. MAX LIEBERMANN AND HIS TIME

"With Impressionism in Germany: Max Liebermann and His Time," the Museum Frieder Burda is dedicated to one of the most influential movements in European art history and to the painter who helped it achieve its breakthrough in Germany. Max Liebermann (1847–1935) is considered a pioneer of German Impressionism, whose light-filled imagery continues to fascinate.

On display are iconic works by Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth, Max Slevogt, and Fritz von Uhde, complemented by numerous works by painters whose contributions to the movement are ripe for rediscovery: among them Dora Hitz, Philipp Franck, Friedrich Kallmorgen, Gotthardt Kuehl, Christian Landenberger, Sabine Lepsius, Maria Slavona, Eva Stort, and Lesser Ury."

and is under the patronage of

Baden-Baden. The exhibition "Impressionism in Germany. Max Liebermann and His Time" got off to a brilliant start... Since its opening at the beginning of October, thousands of visitors have already flocked to Lichtentaler Allee and admired the paintings of the great Impressionist. The overwhelming interest in rediscovering German Impressionism is thrilling the curators and museum staff. With "Impressionism in Germany. Max Liebermann and His Time," the Museum Frieder Burda is dedicating itself to one of the most influential movements in European art history – and to the painter who helped it achieve its breakthrough in Germany.

Max Liebermann (1847–1935) is considered a pioneer of German Impressionism, whose light-filled imagery continues to fascinate.
