Maxl Graf (1933-1996) - folk actor and singer -  wrote the famous song

"There is a Hofbräuhaus in Munich",

... which isn't just a sing-along hit at the Oktoberfest. If you hear this title in the festival tent or in the Hofbräuhaus, then sing along! Here is the German text:

(Below you will find an English translation of the song lyrics)

Da, wo die grüne Isar fließt,

Wo man mit Grüß Gott dich grüßt,

Liegt meine schöne Münch'ner Stadt,

Die ihresgleichen gar nicht hat.

Wasser ist billig, rein und gut,

Nur verdünnt es unser Blut,

Schöner sind Tropfen gold'nen Wein's,

Aber am schönsten ist eins:

In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus:

Eins, zwei, g'suffa

Da läuft so manches Fäßchen aus:

Eins, zwei, g'suffa

Da hat so manche braver Mann:

Eins, zwei, g'suffa

Gezeigt was er so vertragen kann

Schon früh am Morgen fing er an

Und spät am Abend kam er heraus

So schön ist's im Hofbräuhaus.

Wenn auch so manche deutsche Stadt

Sehenswürdigkeiten hat,

Eins gibt es nirgendwo wie hier:

Das ist das Münchener Bier.

Wer dieses kleine Lied erdacht

Hat so manche lange Nacht

Über dem Münchener Bier studiert

Und hat es gründlich probiert.

In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus:

Eins, zwei, g'suffa

Da läuft so manches Fäßchen aus:

Eins, zwei, g'suffa

Da hat so manche braver Mann:

Eins, zwei, g'suffa

Gezeigt was er so vertragen kann

Schon früh am Morgen fing er an

Und spät am Abend kam er heraus

So schön ist's im Hofbräuhaus.

Here is the English translation of the most famous Munich song:

There is a Hofbräuhaus in Munich...

Where the green Isar flows,

Where people say hello to you,

My beautiful Munich city lies,

Which has no equal at all.

Water is cheap, pure and good,

It just thins our blood,

Drops of golden wine are more beautiful,

But one thing is most beautiful:

There is a Hofbräuhaus in Munich:

One, two, g'suffa

A lot of things leak out:

One, two, g'suffa

Many a good man has:

One, two, g'suffa

Showed what he can tolerate

He started early in the morning

And late in the evening he came out

It's so beautiful in the Hofbräuhaus.

Albeit some German cities

has sights,

There is nothing like this anywhere:

This is the Munich beer.

Who thought up this little song

Has many a long night

Studied over Munich beer

And tried it thoroughly.

There is a Hofbräuhaus in Munich:

One, two, g'suffa

A lot of things leak out:

One, two, g'suffa

Many a good man has:

One, two, g'suffa

Showed what he can tolerate

He started early in the morning

And late in the evening he came out

It's so beautiful in the Hofbräuhaus.
