Munich. The start of the Easter holidays traditionally marks the beginning of the season at Munich Zoo. The popular Easter Rally, with its exciting prizes, particularly delights children every year. "Many families take advantage of the spring-like weather for their first visit of the year to the zoo. Therefore, before the Easter holidays, the last remnants of winter are removed, the water is let back into the ditches, and Hellabrunn is made ready for use," explains Zoo Director Rasem Baban. "I'm also delighted that the new Hellabrunn suspension bridge on the Auer Mühlbach stream was completed on time and has turned out really great." The family highlight of Easter in Munich is the Easter egg hunt in a warm, spring-like atmosphere. It all begins on Good Friday (April 18, 2025) and runs until Easter Monday (April 21, 2025). The Easter bunnies have hidden wooden silhouettes of Easter eggs, bunnies, and chicks throughout the animal enclosures. You have to find these wooden figures! A participant card will be distributed on which the locations of the figures are recorded. Those who have written down the correct number on a participation card hand it in at the exits and can win one of the many prizes... from an annual pass to a backpack!

Spring and the start of the season begin during the Easter holidays at Munich's Hellabrunn Zoo
The new season begins with the Easter holidays: It's that time again, because from now on, most of the animals are already romping around in their outdoor enclosures on the Isar meadows. The fresh greenery, the many flowering trees, and a varied program for the whole family brighten up a holiday day.

"Easter is family time – and our beautiful zoo is an ideal destination for the first sunny days of spring... The Isar meadows, in particular, are ablaze with fresh green, and a view of the colorfully blooming meadows at Hellabrunn is always worthwhile. When you also see many animals in the outdoor enclosures enjoying the beautiful weather, the visit becomes a special experience."
With the start of the Easter holidays,
the season begins again at Hellabrunn!
Due to various construction projects, some animals have moved into new quarters:
- The Javan bantengs can currently be seen in the outdoor rhino enclosure,
- the greater kudus have moved into the Mhorr gazelle enclosure,
- and the Hartmann's mountain zebras are temporarily living in the former kiang enclosure.
A necessary roof renovation of the stable buildings will bring some changes, therefore, unfortunately, no bird of prey training can take place in the Hellabrunn Arena in 2025.
"Due to the renovation of the roof of the banteng stable, the birds of prey living there also have to change their quarters, so training is unfortunately not possible," explains Baban.
In addition, due to the continued high risk of the spread of various animal diseases, the petting zoos in Mühlendorf and on the Isar River must unfortunately remain closed.
