Live webcam: Theresienwiese in Munich

It all kicks off tomorrow—in 16 hours—the world-famous Munich Oktoberfest right in our neighborhood!

Webcams mounted on the towers at the Theresienwiese offer a first glimpse of the festival tents, providing a live overview

Munich. Photographs from recent years offer a preview: the skyline of the Munich Oktoberfest at the Theresienwiese is defined by several towers. The most striking are, of course, the beer-mug tower and the lion tower in the heart of the *Wiesn* (festival grounds), but the golden crown atop the gable of the Hofbräu tent also catches the eye. The Bavaria webcam offers a fantastic overview of the vast festival grounds = Überblick über das große Festgelände bietet die Bavaria-Webcam.

It stands 37 meters tall, with the Löwenbräu brand lion perched at its summit.

Visitors walking along Wirtsbudenstraße are magnetically drawn to the festival tent and the animal perched above its entrance—a male lion holding a beer mug that stands an impressive four and a half meters tall and repeatedly roars "LÖÖÖWENGBRÄU" at the top of its lungs.

The tent hosts and their staff serve 5,700 people inside the packed tent, with space for another 2,800 guests in the outdoor area.

The lion also catches visitors' eyes during the day.

The Paulaner Tower on Wirtsbudenstraße also draws guests straight into the heart of the Oktoberfest.

The tower of the Paulaner festival tent—also known as the "Winzerer Fähndl"—is topped by a massive, six-meter-tall *Maß* (liter) beer mug. The hosts here are Peter and Arabella Pongratz. The Paulaner tent easily accommodates 8,400 guests inside and can serve another 2,450 visitors in the outdoor area.

The Hofbräu Festival Tent

The gable of the Hofbräu festival tent on Wirtsbudenstraße is topped by a golden crown. Hosts Margot and Günter Steinberg—who also operate the Hofbräukeller and the Harlachinger Jagdschlössl in addition to the Hofbräu tent at the Munich Oktoberfest—offer affordable, "authentic Bavarian delicacies" here at lunchtime. Guests celebrate beneath a canopy of hops, the vines for which required an entire field to cultivate.

The Steinberg family effortlessly manages service for 6,898 guests inside the tent and another 3,022 visitors in the outdoor beer garden.

Everything is great here.

NOV 24 - Insider tip: Christmas Market at the German Museum Transport Centre

Munich - "Christmas Market at Schneckenplatz" - Schwanthalerhöhe BAVARIA Park - Family Christmas Market

Insider tip: The family-friendly Christmas market at Schneckenplatz in Schwanthalerhöhe

November 24 to December 21, 2025 - Old fairgrounds in front of the German Museum's Transport Centre  (Deutsch, Italiano, English, Français)

Munich. Today we're on the trail of a secret:
a small, cozy Christmas market that has been overlooked in Munich until now: the CHRISTMAS MARKET AT SCHNECKENPLATZ. This market was first held in 2019 under the name "Christmas Magic" in Schwanthalerhöhe. All the parents who play with their children here and in Bavariapark (playground) every day, as well as those who visit the restaurant at Bavariapark, are already looking forward to it. Because: a small, charming family Christmas market is currently being set up in Bavariapark in Schwanthalerhöhe – behind the Bavaria statue.

The location of the Christmas market at Schneckenplatz is familiar to Munich residents, because in front of the transport center is the large “Sweet Brown Snail” by the two artists Jason Rhoades and Paul McCarthy.

So head on over to Schneckenplatz in Bavariapark and the Christmas market with its carousel, mulled wine, and handcrafted goods.

Oh yes, the Old Fairgrounds with the exhibition hall dating from 1908 are also located here.

And most of the Christmas market stalls are already up. Christmas market in front of the locomotive hall of the beautiful Transport Museum at the Deutsches Museum in Bavariapark, photo: Helga Waess, November 16, 2025

The children have plenty of space to run and play, and the adults have the Bavarian Inn at Bavariapark and the German Museum's Transportation Center within sight. The nearby Bavaria statue and the Feldherrnhalle are also worth a visit, as they offer a fantastic view across the Theresienwiese to the city, including the Frauenkirche spires.

The snail sculpture by Jason Rhoades and Paul McCarthy at Bavariapark

At 4.50 meters tall, the snail sculpture "Sweet Brown Snail" blends seamlessly into its generously proportioned surroundings on the 23,000 square meter site between the Congress Hall and the Transportation Center.

As a public art project, the renowned American artists Jason Rhoades and Paul McCarthy created this object, which ironically reflects the mobility illustrated in the Transportation Center through the portable snail shell.

And the human yearning for speed, which resonates in the exhibits, is also reversed by the animal's inherent slowness. The snail's body, with its brick-red shell, stands out in a neutral gray against the light limestone from the Altmühl Valley that covers the entire plaza between the Congress Hall and the Transportation Center.

The best way to get there is by subway:

Munich. 5th World Vespa Meeting, May 10th to 12th, 2024:
On Saturday, May 11th, as part of the World Vespa Meeting, the Vespa Corso will lead across the city from the German Museum to the Bavaria statue and the snail sculpture in front of the German Museum's transport center. The club's more than 100 members come with their scooters

... including the GS 1, GS 2, GS 3, GS 4 models, the Vespa Type U, T1 to T4, which still have small frames and of course the “lamp below”. In the museum we also see exotics such as Allstates, Acmas, Douglas or the well-known Hoffmann and also the Messerschmitt Vespas - or of course the Callessino versions "The Ape".

A special attraction will be the acrobatic show of the roller species - at 2:30 p.m. at Schneckenplatz. A “stunt show” created in the 1950s.

For scooters, the dealer area at the traffic center will be open from 10 a.m. Here we marvel at over 250 vintage Vespa cars. You can also exchange or buy rare original parts in front of the traffic center and in the museum courtyard.

Further highlights of the World Vespa Meeting are on Saturday, May 11, 2024

  •     at 1:00 p.m. the Concours d’Elégance,
