March 14–15: St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Munich 2026

March 14 and 15 - 30 Years of the St. Patrick's Day Festival in Munich

St. Patrick's Day Festival in Munich: Munich celebrates the Green Parade of Munich's Irish community, with spectators wearing green hats or glasses shaped like the typical Irish shamrock

March 14, 2026, from 11:00 AM: Feldherrnhalle at Odeonsplatz / March 15, 2026, from 12:00 PM: Parade from Münchner Freiheit to Odeonsplatz (DEUTSCH, ENGLISH, ITALIANO, FRANÇAIS)

Munich. Since 1996, the Irish community in the Bavarian capital has celebrated the largest St. Patrick's Day festival on the European mainland every year on the weekend before the Irish national holiday (March 17). On Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, 2026, thousands will celebrate Ireland's patron saint in Munich's squares and streets. This tradition has been going strong in the Bavarian capital for 30 years. The celebration is a highlight of Munich's event calendar every year. The Munich Irish Network e. V. (MIN), with the help of numerous volunteers, is the organizer of the entire celebration. Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter has been the patron for many years. ... St. Patrick's Day Festival – Program Details 2026

A special tip for Saturday evening: "Night of the Celts" at the Schlachthof (Slaughterhouse)

Irish and Scottish culture take center stage with, among others,

  • the Paul Daly Band,
  • singer Tanja Heger,
  • bagpiper Konrad Stock,
  • and the dance group of the Munich Scottish Association.

The highlight of the festival weekend is the parade on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at noon

The honorable role of Grand Marshal will be taken on by Alison Moffat-McLynn in 2026. Wolfgang Schramm, 76, from Munich, will once again don the costume of St. Patrick.

The parade is the highlight of the St. Patrick's Day celebrations – a procession from Münchner Freiheit to Odeonsplatz.

The parade starts at 12:00 noon on Sunday at Münchner Freiheit:

Together with the parade's Princess Faye Marie O'Meara, St. Patrick will lead the procession,
which will proceed from Münchner Freiheit to Odeonsplatz.

Nearly 1,400 participants in approximately 70 different groups will complete the 2.5-kilometer route. Admission is free for spectators. The route leads along Leopoldstrasse and Ludwigstrasse to Odeonsplatz.

Traditionally, the parade honoring Ireland's patron saint, St. Patrick, features flag bearers, sports clubs, traditional costume associations, and folklore groups:

  • Highlanders,
  • rugby players,
  • medieval enthusiasts,
  • and leprechauns
  • march through the streets accompanied by marching bands.

Thousands of spectators watch the parade – many in costume with appropriate accessories:

  • green hats or glasses in the shape of the typical Irish shamrock.

The St. Patrick's Day Festival kicks off on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Stage at the equestrian statue on Ludwigstrasse:

First, the Irish national anthem will be played on the stage at the equestrian statue on Ludwigstrasse, followed by the blessing of the typical Irish shamrock.

Afterwards, the tried-and-tested and popular music and dance program will begin.

Those who cannot attend the parade on Sunday have the opportunity today, Saturday (March 14, 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m.), to join Irish people, locals, and people from all over the world in this prime example of successful international understanding.

On both days, numerous food and drink stalls and a stage for the accompanying cultural program will be set up in front of the Feldherrnhalle

The live bands and dance groups, which will even be spread across two stages on Sunday, come from Ireland, Munich, and Montenegro (in the case of the band O’Konrads).
