March 30: HANNOVER MESSE 2025

HANNOVER MESSE 2025 - Opening March 30, 2025

Hannover is currently attracting over 4,000 exhibitors to the major trade fair with the key themes of AI and energy

March 31 to April 4, 2025 in Hannover - Canada is this year's Partner Country (DEUTSCH)

Hannover. Every spring, the major HANNOVER MESSE is the world's leading trade fair for industry worldwide. Each year, over 4,000 companies from the mechanical engineering, electrical and digital industries, and the energy sector use the key theme of "Industrial Transformation" as an opportunity to showcase their innovations in Hannover. How will production and energy supply be organized in the future? This year's main exhibition areas are Smart Manufacturing, Digital Ecosystems, Energy for Industry, Compressed Air & Vacuum Technology, Engineered Parts & Solutions, Future Hub, and International Trade & Investment. Around 1,600 speakers have announced their participation in conference programs, discussing issues facing global industry with visitors. We look forward to the current edition of the Hannover Messe, which will be opened today, March 30, 2025, by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The ceremonial opening of HANNOVER MESSE will take place today, the evening of March 30th

... for the first time with a speaker from industry. Siemens CEO Roland Busch will deliver the opening keynote, followed by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and representatives of Partner Country Canada, who will officially open the trade fair.

HANNOVER MESSE 2025 aims to spread optimism

"We are looking forward to a week of confidence," says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Messe AG. "Yes, the challenges are diverse and well-described. However, too little is said about the strengths of German and European industry in innovation and technology in collaboration with its global partners."

German products are receiving top marks worldwide, especially in the USA and China – and the trend is rising (as recent studies confirm).

"Our products are globally competitive," says Köckler. "But production in Germany and Europe is under pressure."

High energy costs, a shortage of skilled workers, and increasing government regulation are the main challenges facing the industry. Solutions based on automation, artificial intelligence, and international cooperation are needed.

HANNOVER MESSE showcases approaches to the pressing issues of our time.

For example, in the application of AI to optimize manufacturing processes, in the automation of complex production processes, and in models for the use of hydrogen to operate entire production facilities.

The exhibiting companies at the Hannover Messe 2025 include international technology groups

  • Amazon Web Services,
  • Bosch,
  • Google,
  • Microsoft,
  • Schneider Electric
  • Siemens

as well as international, medium-sized global players

  • Beckhoff,
  • Festo,
  • Phoenix Contact,
  • Rittal,
  • Schaeffler
  • SEW

...

Research institutions

  • such as Fraunhofer
  • the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

More than 300 startups from various technology fields showcase innovations with disruptive potential...

  • AI for greater competitiveness
  • Siemens showcases the further development of the Industrial Copilot: An AI assistant

The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) demonstrates how two robots autonomously disassemble different types of electric batteries, exchange parts, and reassemble usable battery parts into new units.

The German startup and AI hopeful Aleph Alpha presents how business processes can become 30 percent more efficient with generative AI.

"It's crucial that companies know how to integrate AI quickly and effectively into their processes. HANNOVER MESSE provides precisely these answers – with practical solutions, expert knowledge, and concrete application examples for immediate use," says Köckler.

Hands-on automation, digitalization, and robotics

As an example, Köckler cites the Application Park, an entire exhibition area dedicated to demonstrating how modern robotics solutions can increase production efficiency.

A project group of 11 companies and research institutions, including Bosch Rexroth, FANUC, and Fraunhofer, is demonstrating how the robot-assisted production of battery cells and packs for electric vehicles can be scaled and optimized.

Given the growing demand for electric vehicles, both production and battery recycling are becoming increasingly important.

Köckler emphasizes: "The application examples presented at the trade fair provide companies with valuable inspiration for optimizing their production processes – with the goal of producing faster, more precisely, and more resource-efficiently."

Hydrogen as a Key Technology: From Electrolysis to Fueling

HANNOVER MESSE demonstrates how hydrogen can play a central role in the energy and mobility transition. In light of global climate targets and rising energy costs, the technology is increasingly becoming the focus of industry, politics, and research. Numerous companies will present innovative solutions at the trade fair – from electrolysis to storage and transport to applications in industry and mobility.

Bosch will present its PEM electrolysis stack, a key technology for the efficient production of green hydrogen.

Maximator will showcase high-pressure technologies for hydrogen storage and fueling.

Geopolitical framework requires decisive action

"Competitiveness also depends on a clear economic policy strategy," emphasizes Köckler. "In recent months, there has been much talk of geopolitical uncertainty. But since the new US President took office, this uncertainty has transformed into stark clarity. The US is consistently pursuing its 'America First' policy, while China is massively and specifically supporting its industry."

For Europe and partners like Canada, this year's Partner Country of the trade fair, it is time to come together more closely and resolutely pursue a common geopolitical and economic strategy.

"As the Partner Country of HANNOVER MESSE 2025, we are ready to build global partnerships and invite investors to experience our dynamic business environment and diverse talent. This event is a celebration of Canada's visionary technologies and our commitment to global innovation and sustainability," says François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance of Canada.

"In the coming years, the trade fair will continue to grow in importance both as a technological innovation platform for European industry and its partners and as a catalyst for stronger international cooperation," adds Köckler.

The HANNOVER MESSE Business Forum kicks off on the afternoon of March 30. In light of global competition, the key questions will be addressed:

What industrial policy direction will the new EU Commission set, and how can Europe secure its innovative strength?

Among those discussing this topic are:

  • Cedrik Neike, CEO of Digital Industries at Siemens,
  • Peter Leibinger, President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI),
  • and Tanja Rückert, Chief Digital Officer and Member of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH.

On Tuesday, the Industry 4.0 platform invites you to the Leaders' Dialogue – this time on the topic of the Data-Driven Industry.

High-ranking experts from politics, business, and academia will discuss the future of the data-driven industry – from AI to the Industrial Metaverse:

  • Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck,
  • Claudia Nemat, Member of the Board of Management of Telekom AG,
  • and Prof. Dr. Holger Hanselka, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

The FEMWORX career conference brings women in industry to the big stage on Thursday and Friday.

  • 100 speakers,
  • 70 program items
  • 1,700 participants

with topics such as careers, new work, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

Speakers on stage include:

  • Nicole Büttner, Founder and Managing Director of Merantix Momentum,
  • Irene Bader, Member of the Board of Management of DMG MORI,
  • and Zarah Bruhn, Founder of Social Bee.
