Drumroll !!! 7.2 million guests visited the Munich Oktoberfest on Theresienwiese in 2023 and drank 6.5 million pints of beer - and the 189th Oktoberfest 2024 in Munich from September 21st - October 6th, 2024 (overview see below)

Munich. The 188th Munich Oktoberfest lasted 18 days this year and attracted an incredible number of visitors. Drumroll !!! As the preliminary Oktoberfest final report from the state capital Munich, more precisely from the Department for Labor and Economic Affairs, announced today. 7.2 million guests from all over the world celebrated on the Theresienwiese in sunshine and summer temperatures. As we discovered during our Oktoberfest visits, everything was really a relaxed celebration. After all, Munich, with 1,488,202 inhabitants or just under 1.5 million inhabitants, is a host that has made celebration part of its program. For comparison, there were a total of 5.7 million visitors to Theresienwiese in 2022 and 6.3 million in 2019. Around 480,000 visitors were counted at the Oidn Wiesn alone (2022: 230,000, 2019: 500,000). "According to the breweries, Oktoberfest guests drank a total of 6.5 million pints of beer (2019: 7.3 million)
The warm temperatures caused an increase of around 50 percent in the consumption of non-alcoholic drinks. The guests rely primarily on water, which at times ran out in various tents. The tents were well filled, but not overcrowded, and the atmosphere was relaxed and partying. The strongest days were the middle and last Saturday of the Oktoberfest.
The undefeated hit was the WIESN-Hendl."

The speaker for labor and economy, Oktoberfest-Wiesn boss Clemens Baumgärtner explained to the press:
“We experienced an Oktoberfest like something out of a picture book, characterized by a summery, relaxed attitude to life. The Oktoberfest guests strolled relaxed around the festival grounds, looked into one or two beer tents, sat in the garden and tested the carousels. Along with beer, water was the drink of the hour. The exceptionally good and predominantly relaxed atmosphere at the Oktoberfest is praised from all sides.”

The inner-city festival on Theresienwiese enjoys a great deal of international attention
And the people of Munich are sociable and like to party. If the weather is good, like this year, a large proportion of the Oktoberfest guests from Munich itself or the surrounding area like to come to Bavaria.
This year we again had a noticeable number of visitors from abroad to Theresienwiese - mainly from the USA, Austria, France and Italy. And everyone enjoyed the universe of the Oktoberfest-Wiesn and came in traditional costume - lederhosen and dirndls were also part of the program for the guests from overseas.

- Entry of the Oktoberfest hosts in 2024 - Festive start to the opening of Oktoberfest: Carriages and brewery teams will pull the innkeepers from Josephspitalstrasse to Theresienwiese on September 21, 2024 at 10:45 a.m.

- Opening and tapping of the Oktoberfest - Mayor Dieter Reiter opens the Oktoberfest with the traditional tap: "O'zapft is!" Mayor Dieter Reiter opens the Oktoberfest - Here’s to a peaceful Oktoberfest! The 189th Munich Oktoberfest will open at 12 p.m. sharp on September 21, 2024. Traditionally, Mayor Dieter Reiter taps the first barrel of Oktoberfest beer in the Schottenhamel festival hall.

- The traditional costume and rifle parade 2024 - Groups in traditional costume parade through the city center to Theresienwiese: Oktoberfest highlight: groups in traditional costume parade through the city center. Thousands of traditional costumers, riflemen and musicians will march from Maximilianstrasse to Theresienwiese in the traditional costume and rifle parade on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024. The traditional parade has always taken place on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest since 1950.
- The Oktoberfest service 2024 - Ecumenical mass in the Marstall festival tent: The ecumenical service on Thursday, September 26th, at 9:30 a.m. in the Marstall tent is aimed at the showmen - but Oktoberfest guests are also invited to pray together in the Marstall festival tent for a peaceful Oktoberfest.

- Concert by the Oktoberfest hosts - Traditional concert by all Oktoberfest festival bands under Bavaria: The Wiesn hosts’ outdoor concert - On the second Sunday of the Wiesn, September 29, 2024, the Wiesn innkeepers' large open-air concert traditionally takes place at the feet of the Bavaria. The bands from all festival tents will play together from 11 a.m. and offer Oktoberfest visitors a Bavarian concert with prominent conductors - completely free of charge!
- Traditional gun shooting - The annual Oktoberfest ends with a big bang: Traditional cannon shooting at the Bavaria. According to old customs, the Oktoberfest ends with loud gunfire - although the celebrations continue in the tents until late in the evening. On the last day of Wiesn, on Sunday, October 6th, at 12 p.m., Munich is particularly exciting: in traditional Bavarian tradition, female and male gunners fire their salute from the foot of the Bavaria.
