Art in Munich: Gallery Weekend is in Munich until Sunday, July 6, 2025 (Deutsch, English)

Munich. Experience the art summer in the city at the art weekend of Munich's galleries, partner institutions, and museums. The art weekend of galleries in Munich has been taking place since 1989. This weekend, 43 galleries spread across the city will be participating. Art is a key European currency and offers virtually inexhaustible potential, so let's be inspired by works of art and immerse ourselves in the visual world. The new communication medium of the Open Art website is a digital magazine with interviews and portraits, and the "Open Art Munich - Gallery Weekend" catalog with all the addresses of the galleries and institutions is available for download on the OPEN ART MUNICH website (openart-munich.de/gallery-weekend/). It not only includes the galleries with their current exhibitions, but also tips for taking a short break while viewing art in the respective districts.

Ein Wochenende für die Kunst in München: Das Gallery Weekend für Sammler, Fachpublikum, Künstler und Kunstliebhaber

 

Kunst in München: bis Sonntag, 6. Juli 2025 ist Gallery Weekend in München  (Deutsch, English)

München. Beim Kunst-Wochenende der Münchner Galerien, Partner-Institutionen und Museen kann man den Kunst-Sommer in der Stadt erleben. Seit 1989 gibt es das Kunstwochenende der Galerien in München. An diesem Wochenende sind 43 die ganze Stadt verteilte Galerien dabei. Kunst ist eine Europäische Leitwährung und bietet ein schier unerschöpfliches Potential, also lassen wir uns von Kunstwerken inspirieren und in die visuelle Welt eintauchen. Das neue Komunikationsmedium der Open Art-Website ist ein Digitales Magazin mit Interviews und Porträts und der "Open Art Munich - Gallery Weekend"-Katalog mit allen Adressen der Galerien und Institutionen steht auf der Homepage der OPEN ART MUNICH (openart-munich.de/gallery-weekend/) zum Download bereit. Darin nicht nur die Galerien mit ihren aktuellen Ausstellungen, sondern auch Tipps für eine kurze Pause beim Kunstschauen in den jeweiligen Stadtvierteln.

Die Partnerinstitutionen der Open Art Munich 

Museen, Stiftungen und Platformen (unten eine Liste) engagieren sich auch für Kunstschaffende und bieten wie die teilnehmenden Galerien, wie die Gudrun Spielvogel (die neben der Galerie in der Maximilianstrasse auch in der Alramstrasse in München Sendling 2 Kunstkabinette öffnet)  wieder spannende Kunstprogramme - auch über dieses Wochenende hinaus.

The start of the 2024 art season in September was once again a complete success!

Munich. A work of art creates new world views! This is how the art season began in the galleries for contemporary art: over 65 galleries for contemporary art started the new art season on one weekend (September 6th - 8th, 2024). It started like a bang with a super opening in all galleries at 6 p.m. The art weekend of the city's galleries opened in the morning. And where better could this happen than in the heart of the art area. ... And in downtown Munich, where there are several galleries at the back of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. ... And from time to time you can stumble across art here, as the next photo shows!

Every year, collectors, art enthusiasts, curators and journalists eagerly await what the gallery scene in Munich has to offer; Because gallery owners have their finger on the pulse of the times with their art perception and artistic selection. 
 
Experience has shown that the exhibitions at the start of the season are a signal for the coming art year.

 

What will shape the current artistic face of the city in the 2024/2025 season?

The gallery exhibitions, the jury of the Munich Professional Association of Visual Artists and many others show art and will enrich our art viewing and cultural experience over the winter and answer our questions.

The gallery owner as curator enriches Munich's cultural landscape

OPEN ART traditionally takes place. THE ART WEEKEND IN MUNICH, always takes place on the last weekend of the big summer holidays (in Bavaria). It's the end of the Munich gallery owners' vacation. They are opening their galleries again and exhibiting. Many people were probably busy looking for new positions in art while on vacation, so that they could soon delight the art world with new and really fresh art. Everything so that Munich remains in the conversation as an art location and new world views and attitudes to life can also be experienced artistically for the art consumer, that is, for the viewer. 

A work of art creates new world views

Through a work of art, the artist's perception is visualized for us - private, social, political, critical and absolutely subjective. At best, an art object, whether a performance, drawing, painting, sculpture or photograph, contains a whole worldview. It can represent an entire era or turning point and create new levels of experience and perception in the encounter with the viewer.

Art is an essential part of a society's culture. Art is freedom and an expression of culture. The gallery owner as curator is therefore an essential part of the Munich cultural scene and art weekends such as OPEN ART. THE ART WEEKEND OF THE MUNICH GALLERIES in September, the art fairs such as the ""HIGHLIGHS. Internationale Kunsmesse München" last weekend or the ART MUC last weekend expand the much-praised Munich Art Autumn as important events in the cultural landscape of the Bavarian capital.
