June 27 to July 6, 2025 MUNICH FILM FESTIVAL - The grand opening gala will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Gasteig HP8 (by invitation only) - DEUTSCH
Munich. Starting on the last weekend in June, the city will once again belong to film for a week. Young talents and big stars will meet in Munich's cinemas. Several world and German premieres will attract audiences to the city's cinemas. The program will be officially announced on June 18 (official website: www.filmfest-muenchen.de)! The award ceremonies and parties will crown the 42nd Munich Film Festival 2025. The festival provides a launching platform for international filmmakers and presents ten international film productions to audiences in Munich for the first time – four more than last year. This year, five German co-productions will celebrate their world premieres in the CineCoPro competition, two new productions will celebrate their world premieres in the CineRebels competition and in the Spotlight section, and one production will be screened in the CineMasters competition.
"...the opportunity to show international voices and their exciting works to Munich audiences and the film industry first..."
"When selecting world premieres of international films, we feel a special responsibility and always ask ourselves how we can help these films gain special attention through the right context. In recent years, it has meant international success for many creatives, such as Marcelo Gomes (PALOMA, 2022), who is now returning with the world premiere of a new work. A sign of growing trust, and for us, an opportunity to show international voices and their exciting works to Munich audiences and the film industry first. All world premieres will therefore be shown again on our Public Sunday, the last day of the festival." Julia Weigl and Christoph Gröner - Artistic Directors of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN
